Since regular hunting seasons are winding down, many of us are looking forward to chasing some non-traditional game or exotics. Wild boar or feral hogs are probably our most hunted exotic game. The topic of what is the best caliber for wild boar gets brought up nearly every time hunters get together during one of our pig hunts. I get asked some variation of “if you could have any caliber, what would you choose?”. I don’t like using minimal calibers. The vast majority of shots presented to me are short range, under 150 yards. I can only recall two times…

The brightly colored cliffs of Michigan’s Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore have long attracted kayakers eager to gaze at these geologic wonders. So, it’s no surprise that federal prosecutors just announced penalties against four people who broke several rules in this area managed by the National Park Service (NPS). The small group from Illinois not only carved large letters into the area’s beloved cliff faces, but they also attempted to illegally remove 100 pounds of rocks. Park rangers charged them with defacing and collecting park resources. That led to Wednesday’s sentencing, which ordered each of them to pay a $500 fine.…

This article originally appeared on Explorersweb. This spring, two climbers will approach Everest the (very) long way around. While most take a helicopter to Base Camp, they will start their “climb” from the seashore some 3,000 km away. From there, they will avoid motorized vehicles until they reach the highest point on Earth. Climbing Is Just a Fraction Technology, logistics, and the sheer number of summiters have stripped away some of Everest’s aura, so climbers continually seek a novel gimmick to make their quest seem striking. This includes fast ascents, multiple summits, and no-oxygen climbs. But for years, a handful…

Virginia’s legislative session will wrap up this weekend, but not before Democrats have sent at least a dozen anti-2A bills to Gov. Abigail Spanberger for her signature. While some measures like a proposed “permit-to-purchase” and new taxes on guns, ammo, and suppressors were pushed to next year’s session, there are enough new laws on the way that the right to keep and bear arms will be hugely affected come July 1, when many of these provisions will become law.  Reason recently took a look at the 12 bills that have passed out of the General…

I use my dad and his group of fishing buddies as a litmus test for what fly fishing gear I recommend. Those dudes are hardcore. They hold weekly fly-tying sessions, own multiple boats, and travel across the West together, fishing some of the most storied trout waters. Heck, one of them spends months living out of a trailer on the ‘Mo. And not a single one of them is part of the fly fishing industry. It’s all for the love of the game. That’s what makes them such good assessors of what gear is worth it, and what isn’t. It’s…
