Military.com has learned that a U.S.-flagged cargo ship operated by Danish shipping giant Maersk, one of the world’s largest container shipping companies, cleared the Strait of Hormuz on Monday under U.S. military protection. The vessel, ALLIANCE FAIRFAX, transited the strategic waterway under a “comprehensive security plan” coordinated with the U.S. military, a Maersk spokesperson confirmed to Military.com. The vessel had been unable to depart the Persian Gulf for months. Monday was the first day of a mission dubbed as “Project Freedom,” utilizing guided-missile destroyers, more than 100 land and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and roughly 15,000 service members as…

The latest financial reports from REI show that it has been successful in narrowing the gap toward profitability. Not a week goes by that we don’t see some example of someone with a long list of felons commit some horrific crime, and we’re left to ask why that person isn’t in prison. Between politicians and judges, our jails basically have revolving doors. No number of felonies seems to be too many to get put right back out on the streets, only to commit crimes yet again. We’ve seen violent offenders get suspended sentences, for example, despite a long criminal record. Then we have people like someone Slate talked about recently. While I’m sure most…

A longtime California hunter who spent decades chasing big game across Africa was killed last month in a worst-case scenario that every experienced hunter understands. But hopes never happens. According to reporting from ABC 10 Sacramento and KCRA 3, 75-year-old Ernie Dosio of Lodi was trampled by a herd of elephants on April 17 while hunting in Gabon’s dense rainforest. Dosio wasn’t new to this. Friends say he had made multiple trips to Africa over the years and was considered a seasoned big-game hunter. On this trip, he was reportedly tracking a rare antelope species when he and his guide…

It’s been well documented that the driver-less taxi firm Waymo racked up 600 parking tickets in San Francisco in 2024, totaling more than $65,000 in fines. Now that Waymo is getting ready to operate in Pittsburgh, PA, it has no excuse to repeat that performance. For that matter, anyone who envisions a future where their autonomous car can moonlight as a revenue-generating taxi while you’re hard at work can’t claim plausible deniability for parking tickets. Honestly officer, I wasn’t driving the car! But we aren’t sure the solution is much better. Two Pittsburgh-based startups, Meter Feeder and Mapless AI, have…

The damage to the United States economy because of relentless wars and inflation is becoming more obvious. Spirit Airlines has announced that it is going out of business and ceasing all operations, effective immediately. Failed government bailout negotiations were also to blame. The Trump administration considered a $500 million bailout but did not reach a deal, according to Duffy, who said the government is a lender of last resort. President Trump floated the idea after Spirit entered bankruptcy for the second time in less than two years, driven partly by rising jet fuel costs linked to the conflict in Iran,…

One of my earliest food memories is sitting at the kitchen counter, spooning grated Parmesan cheese into my mouth as a child while my mom cooked dinner. As someone who grew up in an Italian household, Parm — real, whole blocks of aged Parmigiano-Reggiano — is as much a pantry essential as salt, pepper, or oil. While I always keep several blocks of Parmesan at home, I never thought to bring it to the backcountry. While working on an article for GearJunkie, however, I decided to take a block on a backpacking trip, and it changed everything. Now, no packing…

Gov. Tim Walz was in a position to become vice president. I think I speak for most of us when I say that I’m glad he’s still governor of Minnesota. It’s not because he’s been stellar at his job there, mind you, as the Minneapolis day care scandal, and Walz’s reaction to it, amply illustrates that he sucks at it. It’s because it means he and Kamala Harris aren’t in charge in Washington. Both were terrible on gun issues, despite Walz trying to portray himself as a macho man who could out shoot any of…

Long Island, New York, isn’t the most gun-friendly place in the world, but some people have guns there. Shocking, I know, but it’s true.Still, when you have a gun, either in an anti-gun state or not, it’s imperative that you handle it safely. It’s also imperative that if you hand that gun to someone who doesn’t know how to handle it safely, you instruct them immediately. For one guy, though, it was a rough time because he didn’t.It seems that you can get arrested for being shot with your own gun.Geonard Wade allegedly handed a…

Big ruling out of D.C. last week, and the internet immediately lit up with “circuit split!” and “SCOTUS incoming!” posts. Pump the brakes. Yes, this is a big win. No, it’s not the endgame. At least not yet. According to Washington Gun Law’s breakdown, the case, Benson v. United States, comes from the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, not the federal D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. That distinction matters. If this had come from the federal circuit, we’d likely have the kind of clean circuit split that forces the Supreme Court’s hand. But it didn’t. So technically, no split.…

United States senator and infamous war hawk Lindsey Graham has said that the ruling class is going to “make a ton of money” off the war it just started with Iran. If the U.S. is successful in toppling the Iranian government, the U.S. will control almost a third of the world’s oil and make record profits. Graham has already said that the cost of the attacks on Iran were the “best money ever spent,” arguing that the purpose is to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons. Iran has repeatedly denied that it intends to create nukes and insists that…

Winter can be a confusing time for runners. Conditions can be highly variable — cold and dry, cold and icy, cold and slushy, or randomly temperate. Protection from the cold and grip on slippery surfaces are essential, but over the course of a single run, one might traverse pavement, puddles, and powder. Spikes can be useful, but are overkill for runs that aren’t exclusively on snow or ice. Yet typical trail shoes can be insufficient for the frigid conditions. In 2022, Tracksmith debuted the Eliot Runner — a low-profile shoe with a Pebax midsole and insole. Its classic look, combined…

For years, U.S. diplomats, CIA officers, and military personnel who reported bizarre brain injuries were told it was stress, mass hysteria, or environmental exposure. Now? That story just took a hard turn. According to a new investigation by 60 Minutes, U.S. agents secretly obtained a previously unknown microwave weapon overseas. And testing suggests it can cause the exact kinds of injuries reported in so-called “Havana Syndrome” cases. If this reporting holds, we’re not talking about conspiracy theories anymore. We’re talking about a portable, concealable directed-energy weapon capable of silently injuring Americans. Even on U.S. soil. The Symptoms Weren’t Random Since…

This article originally appeared on The Inertia. Two missing hikers kicked off a search for a spree killer in Utah this week. Now, the manhunt has ended with a suspect in custody and the discovery of a third body. The ordeal began Wednesday, when Linda Dewey, 65, and Natalie Graves, 34, failed to return from a hike in central Utah, near Capitol Reef National Park. When their husbands went to the trailhead to look for them, they found both women dead and their car missing. The ensuing manhunt would go across four states and uncover another body, 86-year-old Margaret Oldroyd.…

I’m not unsympathetic to those who lost loved ones in mass murders. I’ve been there myself, and while it was a friend versus a family member, I can extrapolate what it’s like from what I’ve experienced to know it’s not something I’d wish on anyone. But on the same token, I refuse to just bend the knee to everyone who lost someone to a madman who wants to demean the things that matter. The UK took a hard turn on guns after the Dunblane massacre, and it hasn’t really helped. They’ve had plenty of mass shootings…

United States President Donald Trump has downplayed the economic impact of $100 a barrel oil as a “very small price to pay” in order to keep up the war efforts. “ONLY FOOLS WOULD THINK DIFFERENTLY!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. Right now, most everyday people are feeling the cost-of-living crisis as inflation crushes their purchasing power, and the costs of everything have skyrocketed. This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog.  There is no way to get around it. We are facing a major global economic disruption, and the longer this war goes on, the worse it will get. As I have reminded my readers on numerous occasions, our entire way of life is predicated on cheap energy, and the Middle East is the most important energy-producing region in the entire world. Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been paralyzed, and energy infrastructure has been under attack by both sides. In fact, this morning Tehran was “covered in…
