There’s an old saying that common sense isn’t so common anymore. Whether that’s true probably depends on who you ask. But every so often a story comes along that makes just about everyone scratch their head. The latest comes out of Georgia, where an 8-year-old special needs student was suspended after bringing what school officials reportedly classified as a “weapon” to school. The weapon? According to NRA-ILA’s write-up, it was a tiny LEGO keychain built from a handful of plastic bricks that happened to resemble a pistol. If your first thought was, “Wait… seriously?” you’re not alone. When Does a…
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has launched a new clinical trial to test the effectiveness and safety of psilocybin—the main ingredient in magic mushrooms—in treating veterans with treatment-resistant depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The trial, called “Psilocybin Intervention for Veterans Overcoming Treatment-Resistant Depression” (PIVOT), will be conducted at the following locations: Birmingham VA Health Care System and Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center in Alabama; VA Portland Health Care System in Oregon; Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia; and VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, Washington. The trial comes after President Donald Trump issued an…
A federal judge in Texas just handed gun-rights advocates one of their biggest courtroom wins in years. And it could have major implications for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and the future of the National Firearms Act. On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor ruled that the federal government can no longer require the registration of suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns (SBSs), and certain other firearms whose $200 transfer tax was eliminated under the One Big Beautiful Bill. The ruling came in Jensen v. ATF, one of several lawsuits backed by the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) challenging what’s left of the…
Eight minutes after the medevac plane lifted off from Roswell, its GPS went dark. The crew was flying a Beechcraft King Air through the New Mexico night toward a patient waiting near Ruidoso. Without satellite navigation, they began asking for help. An air traffic controller called a supervisor, who reached out to the military and asked it to stop jamming, so they stopped jamming. The plane’s GPS came back, and the crew then reported the airport in sight. They accepted a visual approach, the kind flown by looking out the window rather than by instruments. With the aircraft lined up,…
As my colleague Tom Knighton wrote yesterday, the gun control lobby’s not having a great year. In addition to SCOTUS granting cert to several lawsuits challenging “assault weapon” bans and delivering important wins for gun owners this term, they’ve suffered legislative and legal setbacks in a number of states as well. And at the federal level, the ATF has rolled out nearly three dozen regulatory reforms that will impact both the industry and individual gun owners… just not in the way anti-gun activists would like. Gun control groups have been doing their best to scare…
Tiberius Aerospace has entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center to advance Sceptre, its liquid-fueled, ramjet-powered 155mm precision-guided artillery round. The agreement establishes a formal framework for Tiberius and the DEVCOM Armaments Center to conduct mutually agreed research and technical work related to Sceptre. The Army uses CRADAs to collaborate with private companies on research and development, but the agreements are not procurement contracts. Sceptre is designed to fire from existing NATO-standard howitzers without requiring a new launcher or firing platform. Tiberius says the round is intended to…

A newly reported CIA assessment places several congressional proposals for deeper U.S.-Israel defense integration in an even more troubling context. The assessment, as described to Capital & Empire by several U.S. officials, reportedly concludes that Israeli officials want to replace politically vulnerable military aid with institutional ties that future presidents and Congress would struggle to unwind, likely to counteract a recent nosedive in support from the American citizenry. The July 29 report from Capital & Empire stated that the document was written primarily by the CIA and circulated within the government that week. It reportedly concluded that Israel expects American…
When a storm separates astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) from his crew and strands him on Mars, there’s no cavalry coming. No quick fix. Just a hostile planet, limited supplies, and a survival clock ticking down. Watney’s not an action hero—he’s a skilled guy with the right mindset, doing his best when everything falls apart. He leans into what he knows—botany, engineering, and problem-solving—to stay alive. Back on Earth, NASA scrambles to help, and his crew considers a high-risk rescue. It’s survival stripped down to skill, grit, and action. What makes The Martian worth watching isn’t just the setting or…

More and more people, especially those in urban and suburban areas, have come to realize the importance of being ready for emergencies. One concern that is common among urban preppers is how to prepare effectively without letting the entire neighborhood know you’re stocked and ready. That’s where a low-profile survival plan comes in. If you live in an apartment complex, a cul-de-sac, or a tightly knit community, drawing attention to your preparedness efforts can make you a target when things go awry. The last thing you want during a crisis is to become a target. Let’s look at ways to…
A senior non-commissioned officer stationed at Fort Hood has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after a military jury convicted him of raping and sexually abusing two children, concluding one of the most serious criminal cases prosecuted by the Army in recent years. Sgt. Maj. Victor M. Rivera, 49, a telecommunications operations chief assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 11th Corps Signal Brigade, III Armored Corps, was sentenced June 12 by a military judge following his conviction at the Lawrence Williams Judicial Center at Fort Hood, according to the Army. The sentence represents one of the most significant punishments…

Podcast: Play in new window | DownloadMost people prepping for trouble think about food, firearms, or gear. But few people start out thinking about clothing as part of their gear—even though the clothes on your back, and whether you have a plan for scaling up and down based on your risk, might matter more than any of it. That’s why my friend Josh Burmeister, a former Navy SERE instructor and Executive Protection pro, and I broke it down into six clear levels. This isn’t about buying a closet full of tactical costumes. It’s about understanding your clothing as a layered,…
Texas has long positioned itself as a bastion of Second Amendment freedom. With its deep gun culture, cowboy heritage, and constitutional carry law enacted in 2021, the Lone Star State projects an image of unapologetic support for the right to keep and bear arms. Politicians often tout Texas as a model for the rest of the nation, where law-abiding citizens can carry without government permission. Yet, a closer examination of its statutes reveals a more nuanced, eye-opening picture. Truth is, Texas does not even rank in the top 10 of the most pro-Second Amendment states…
JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. (AP) — President Donald Trump on Friday showed off the new Air Force One, a formerly Qatari-owned jumbo jet that has been converted into the official U.S. presidential aircraft. The new aircraft eschews the Kennedy-era robin’s egg blue exterior of the old plane for a bolder look, with the underbelly of the plane painted navy blue with a red stripe above it. The plane’s left side, where the president boards, features the presidential seal, while the tail of the aircraft has a massive American flag on it. “This plane was transformed into a flying White House…
