See how the Air Force incorporated members’ waist-to-height ratio into the service’s Physical Fitness Readiness Assessment.

The Air Force modified its fitness test scoring charts and standards in 2026, with new requirements taking effect that include a height-waist body composition score. The Air Force offers its members options for completing sections of the assessment.

The Air Force Physical Fitness Readiness Assessment (PFRA) consists of:

  • Waist-to-height ratio (max of 20 points)
  • Muscle strength events: Pushups, 1 min.; or hand-release pushups, 2 min. (max of 15 points)
  • Core strength endurance events: Situps, 1 min.; crunches, 2 min.; or plank pose (max of 15 points)
  • Cardiorespiratory events: 2-mile run or 20-meter high aerobic multi-shuttle run (HAMR) (max of 50 points)

The Space Force has the same test as the Air Force.

Passing Requirements

Members must achieve a composite score of 75 or greater and meet the minimum standards for each event to pass the test.

Here are the scoring categories:

  • Excellent: 90 or more total points
  • Satisfactory: 75-89.9 total points
  • Unsatisfactory: less than 75 total points
