Independence Day sales are typically known for deals on grills, lawn equipment, coolers, and ways to stay cool through the summer, and all of those can relate to prepping and survival in some way. After checking out a slew of sales, we’ve rounded up the best gear for preppers to check out to augment their survival kits and preparedness plans.July 4th lands on a Saturday this year, but sales have already started and run through the weekend for the most part. Like most roundups, we’ll keep updating as sales come and go throughout the period, so check back periodically to…

Hurricanes pose a large threat to those who live near the coast. Between the high wind and massive amounts of rain, they can cause various types of damage that can exceed $150 billion each year.I’ve lived through several hurricanes of all categories and dealt with flooding, wind damage, power outages, and more. In North Carolina, we don’t have it quite as bad as Florida, but less prepared communities can have even tougher times with large storms. Many people around the world and in the US aren’t affected by hurricanes, so this list isn’t for everyone. But, if you live on the…

Suppressors are century-old technology, more or less. Sure, those today are generally better than Hiram Maxim’s first successful silencer, but the idea behind them has been around for a long time now.  While suppressors are more easily available today than at any other point since 1934, the export of them is a different matter entirely. It seems the Trump administration has moved the regulation of these devices from the State Department over to the Commerce Department. You still need approval to export them, but it’s not quite the same ordeal. And Everytown’s so-called publication, The Smoking…

A World War II veteran has received a special military honor some 80 years after his service. Army Capt. Louis Vernon Landry, a former physician from Bossier, La., served in World War II and on Aug. 12 posthumously received a Bronze Star Medal. He served in the conflict in the Southwest Pacific and England, treating wounded soldiers under fire. He earned a combat medical badge for his service, which made him eligible for the Bronze Star Medal. But it was not presented to him before his death, leading his family to seek recognition for Capt. Landry. Now, 80 years later,…

Montezuma County, Colorado Sheriff Steven Nowlin isn’t the only sheriff in the state who’s refusing to issue the new Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card that’s now required in order to purchase AR-15s and many other semi-automatic firearms in the state.  According to a new filing by the Colorado Shooting Sports Association, the sheriffs in Teller and Bent counties are also declining to participate, with Teller County Sheriff Jason Mikesell attesting that the burden imposed by the state on his small department is too great. I believe that, in order to cover the cost of the permit-to-purchase…

WARSAW (AP) — A Russian plot to kill a Ukrainian American citizen in Warsaw was thwarted by Poland before it could be carried out, the Polish prime minister said Thursday, marking the first time in decades that a Western leader has publicly accused Moscow of plotting to kill a U.S. citizen. Western officials have previously warned that Russia has stepped up a campaign of targeted killings since President Vladimir Putin’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, saying they have disrupted several plots across Europe. But Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said this incident was unprecedented. It was the first time that “someone…

Lawmakers in Washington are demanding answers from the Navy amid reports of a mental health crisis onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is involved in the U.S.’s war against Iran. The USS Abraham Lincoln, which has 5,000 sailors and marines on board, has been at sea for nine months. It has been in combat with Iran for five months, and has spent 250 days in a row without making land—leaving those on board without the opportunity to see their families and friends. Lawmakers reacted to multiple reports from the Navy Times and Stars and Stripes which, citing interviews with sailors’…

The right to keep and bear arms should be pretty straightforward. It’s not like the Second Amendment features a lot of subclauses and contradictory or confusing language, right? But as we’ve discussed repeatedly here at Bearing Arms, lawfully carrying a firearm outside the borders of the state where you live is often far more difficult than it should be… and in some cases it’s actually impossible.  That’s why attorney Alan Beck has teamed up with the National Rifle Association to sue the city of Denver and the state of Colorado on behalf of two non-residents…

I honestly expected the Department of Justice to file an appeal to the court’s decision in Jensen. That’s the case where the continued registration of suppressors and short-barreled long guns was declared unconstitutional. There was a stay on the decision pending the possibility of the DOJ filing that appeal, and it was set to expire at midnight. That means today, August 13, 2026, is a brand new day for things like suppressors. No more registrations, and at least one prominent gun guy has already taken advantage of it.🚨BREAKING🚨It’s official! @SilencerShop completed the first lawful, unregistered suppressor…
