For years, the mainstream media blatantly misrepresented what it meant to “stand your ground.” They claimed that Stand Your Ground laws legalized murder. All you had to do was say you were afraid for your life, and that was that; you’d walk. I think they honestly believed that, too. They thought they knew what they knew and didn’t bother to do any more digging to see if they were accurate. They weren’t.Part of why I think they believed it is because of this piece from the New York Times about an incident in Wyoming. When Rihanna…

I don’t think we’ve ever had a year where everything went according to plan. We’ve replaced tires weeks before a PCS. Paid for extra hotel nights because travel changed. Bought plane tickets we never expected to buy. And once, my husband broke his leg two days before we were supposed to leave Germany. At some point, I stopped asking, “What else could happen?” and started budgeting as if life was going to throw us another curveball. A resilient budget isn’t about predicting every emergency. It’s about creating a financial plan that’s flexible enough to absorb life’s surprises without completely derailing…

Jonas Black wants to protect Yellowstone’s Mollie’s Pack. At least, that’s what he says. The animal-rights influencer recently offered a $10,000 reward for information identifying anyone who legally kills 12-year-old wolf 1090F or another member of her pack during Wyoming’s upcoming wolf season. He also promised to make the hunter famous, comparing the potential backlash to what followed the killing of Cecil the lion. I understand what he thinks he’s doing. He wants hunters to believe that killing one of these wolves will come with consequences. Instead, he may have signed their death warrant. That plan rests on the assumption…

The National Park Service (NPS) is often referred to as “America’s best idea.” Poll after poll shows that Americans across the political spectrum love national parks. Theodore Roosevelt is a beloved president, in part, because of his association with the parks. During a recent visit to Yosemite during peak season, however, I observed a wide gulf between people’s feelings and their actions. Visitors may think that national parks are the country’s crown jewels, but they treat them like garbage cans. Since NPS data has confirmed for years that Yosemite is experiencing large crowds, I saw my visit to the park…

I don’t like identity politics. I don’t think the world should be viewed through the lens of people being seen not as individuals, but as groups they have some kind of affiliation with in a single regard. The left has made this a central part of its beliefs and expects the rest of us to fall in line. Straight white men are the last legitimate target of bigotry. Well, besides the Jews, apparently.Since the October 7th attacks by Hamas on Israel, we’ve seen a lot of antisemitism. I’ve written an awful lot about how many…

Authorities said bank employees became suspicious when Woodward presented a Pinnacle Loan advance form in the amount of $8,900, which she purportedly signed with the victim’s name but had an incorrect account number. Authorities said a Pinnacle Bank account was targeted by a Colorado woman…

A Georgia man is looking at a potential 15-year prison sentence after flying to Jamaica with two loaded magazines in his luggage. Igor Andrusceak says both he and TSA employees failed to notice the 15-round magazines when he went through airport security, and he apparently didn’t discover them during his trip either. Instead, Jamaican security officials spotted the mags as he and his family were leaving the country after a vacation, and what was an idyllic getaway quickly turned into a nightmare. Andrusceak understands Jamaica’s strict gun laws. He also believes the potential punishment is far…

Every Permanent Change of Station, or PCS, taught me something new about budgeting. Not because I got better at reading the regulations (I did) or memorized every reimbursement program. It was usually because I made a mistake, got surprised by an expense, or wondered, “How did we spend that much already?” And it never stopped. No matter how many PCS moves we completed, something always came up. Sometimes it was something major. Other times it was as simple as hunting down a pharmacy in the middle of the night in a brand-new town and buying every allergy medicine on the…
