The Supreme Court wants to hear from the city of New York after the Firearms Policy Coalition, Second Amendment Foundation, and several individual plaintiffs asked the Court to accept their lawsuit challenging the Big Apple’s ban on stun guns. A Purple Heart award that a soldier who was wounded in action during World War II received was transferred to his family on Saturday after a woman found it in her father-in-law’s belongings. Leo Delphus Duverney, born in North Adams, Mass., entered the U.S. Army in September 1943, according to Vermont News and Media, which reported the transfer. He served with the 15th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division and was wounded in the battle for Rome on May 26, 1944. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) made errors in about one-third of the cases it reviewed involving reductions to veterans’ disability compensation, according to a report from the agency’s watchdog. The VA Office of Inspector General recently found that claims processors made one or more errors in roughly 34% of proposed and final decisions to reduce veterans’ service-connected disability compensation during the 2024 calendar year. In some instances, benefits were slashed without giving veterans the advance notice the law requires. Federal law is supposed to guard against exactly that kind of mistake.
