A federal claim that New York City refused to honor an immigration detainer for a man accused of setting a fire in Queens that killed four people is facing new scrutiny. Officials at the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have framed Roman Ceron Amatitla’s case as an example of sanctuary policies blocking cooperation, but the New York City Department of Correction said it processes detainers consistent with local law and confirmed the suspect remains in custody. The dispute reflects a broader national fight over immigration enforcement authority, as federal agencies push for greater cooperation from…
Wisconsin turkey hunter Carson Bender got more than a gobbler response during a recent spring hunt. Bender, 19, was set up on private land near Nekoosa, Wisc., when he heard movement behind him while turkeys worked toward his setup. Rather than turn around and risk spooking the birds, he used his phone camera to check behind him. The video shows a bobcat staring at him from close range. The cat then inches forward before lunging and grabbing Bender’s arm. Bender shook the animal off, and it ran away. Bender reported only minor scratches and later went to a doctor. Turkey…
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and newly-confirmed ATF Director Robert Cekada, surrounded by representatives from the firearms industry and Second Amendment groups, announced a slew of reforms to the agency along with its rules and regulations on Wednesday afternoon. That includes the repeal of the Biden-era rules treating brace-equipped pistols as short-barreled rifles and almost every gun owner who offers a firearm for sale as an “unlicensed dealer.” Blanche credited President Donald Trump for the reforms to come, noting the president’s executive order last year directing federal agencies to identify rules, regulations, and laws that…
Dear Ms. Vicki, I have been married to my husband, who is in the Navy, for almost three and a half years. When we met, I was hesitant to date him because I was going through a divorce and because of him being in the military. I was used to seeing people go through heartaches after meeting other people who are in the military. I have this mentality that “they come and go after six months … why should I bother?” I told him that my previous marriage was filled with deception, emptiness and lots of heartache. It completely turned…
People living in the United Kingdom will be spending fewer years in good health as “healthy life expectancy” plummets. The UK is going backward compared to most other “wealthy” countries. Healthy life expectancy (HLE) in the UK has fallen by about 2 years, to just over 60 years for both men and women, making Britain one of only five wealthy nations where people live fewer years in good health, according to a new analysis by the Health Foundation charity. This means that the amount of life a person spends in good health has decreased. The findings, based on data from…
Florida’s Everglades National Park is the largest wetland in North America, and home to endangered species like the Florida panther and West Indian manatee. A large wildfire is now threatening those animals’ habitat. The Highway 41 fire began on April 27, and authorities are struggling to contain it. What Happened The National Park Service (NPS) first learned of the fire on the evening of April 27, according to a press release. The U.S. Wildland Fire Service quickly responded with air and ground operations. As of midday on April 28, the fire had grown to 2,500 acres. Authorities closed several square…
A United States congressman and veteran who facilitated a $10 million funding infusion to the U.S. Marine Corps’ Warfighting Lab (MCWL) at Marine Corps Base Quantico knows the importance of the facility, partially because it’s in his own backyard. Rep. Eugene Vindman, a Democrat and U.S. Army veteran, represents Virginia’s 7th District—the same district where the Warfighting Lab is located. The constituents represented within run the gamut across the national security apparatus, totaling roughly 72,000 military veterans, nearly 20,000 active-duty service members, and at one point around 55,000 federal civil servants prior to cuts made by the so-called Department of…
Connected bikes usually promise the same basic thing. They’re supposed to bring the studio home, make cardio less miserable, and justify the space they take up by becoming something you’ll actually use. Some pull that off. Some become expensive coat racks with a screen. The VeloNix is Speediance’s answer to the Peloton-style bike, built around guided rides, connected features, on-screen entertainment, and an ownership model that doesn’t saddle you with another monthly bill. It’s a compelling pitch, especially for people who want the connected-bike experience without fully buying into the Peloton ecosystem. I spent several months riding the VeloNix to…
A man acting erratically on a train headed for Chicago was spotted by a rail worker who called police. Officers found guns and a pamphlet about crowd control in his carry-on bag — and a plan for a mass casualty event. Almost two years later, federal authorities say a different man charged with attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday was arrested with a shotgun and a semiautomatic pistol he brought with him to Washington, D.C., on an Amtrak train from California. It’s just the latest security incident involving long-distance public ground…
United States President Donald Trump said that he would “love to have China and Russia” join the Board of Peace he instituted as a way to “stabilize” Gaza in the aftermath of the war with Israel. “They’ve been invited. You need both. You need all persuasions. No discrimination,” Trump was quoted as saying while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Thursday, Moscow suggested that it was considering Trump’s invitation. In January, President Vladimir Putin also floated contributing $1 billion sourced from Russian sovereign assets frozen in the US – the exact fee for a permanent seat – even…
Rhode Island gun owners could soon be forced to take an eight-hour firearms training course and pass a test in order to keep ahold of the guns they currently own. A pair of Brown students are among those pushing for the change. In a column at the Boston Globe, Jack DiPrimio and Michael Citarella make their case for expanding the state’s “blue card” requirements, but in doing so they present a false picture of the changes in store for gun owners if the bill they’re backing becomes law. Right now, Rhode Island requires anyone seeking to…
Globe Trekker is an overland expedition engineering company based in Beaverton, Ore. It’s known for its four-season adventure campers, which let people go on adventures year-round. Its latest product offers something new and different for a platform that’s been used for years to travel: the Ford E-Series van chassis. And, for those not in the know, the “E” in E-Series does not mean “electric.” It used to stand for “Econoline.” Globe Trekker just debuted its new Ford E-Series Camper for E-350 and E-450 models. Specifically for use with the 138″ and 158″ wheelbase E-Series Cutaway chassis. These lightweight overland campers…
Despite a Republican supermajority in the legislature, Oklahoma hasn’t seen too many substantial pro-2A bills approved since Constitutional Carry was signed into law in 2019. Efforts to adopt a campus carry statute have consistently failed, adults under the age of 21 are generally denied their right to bear arms (with or without a concealed carry permit), and virtually all government buildings are considered “sensitive places” where lawful concealed carry is not allowed. That includes the state capitol building, though there was a bill introduced this year to repeal the “gun-free zone” status. Unfortunately, HB 3094…
In a long-overdue move, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced it will no longer continue to report veterans to the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) solely because they have been assigned a fiduciary to assist them with their finances. This action reverses a longstanding and controversial VA policy that strips the Second Amendment rights of our veterans without any due process. Additionally, the VA is working with the FBI to remove all the names of veterans who have been unjustly reported to NICS. “Effectively immediately, VA will not report veterans to the Federal Bureau…
Most of the time, when I write about gun ownership for marijuana users, I point out the inconsistent enforcement of federal laws. Washington turns a blind eye to marijuana being sold out of storefronts that are explicitly set up to sell it, even though it’s illegal under federal law, but if someone who goes to one of those storefronts and buys it also owns a gun, they will prosecute him for that. I don’t like inconsistency in enforcing the law. If you’re going to legalize pot, legalize it.As for the gun ownership question, colonial-era laws…
This article was originally published by Tyler Durden at ZeroHedge. Update (0810ET): King Charles has released his first public statement regarding Andrew’s arrest. He said: I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it…

Peter Paden was aboard a helicopter hovering through a hole in the clouds. As it dropped the rear ramp on a hilltop under fire, he reached for a wounded Marine’s hand. The Marine had stepped on a landmine. Paden’s crew from A Company, 159th Assault Support Helicopter Battalion, call sign Pachyderm, took the mission to extract the wounded Marine.”He slips from my hand and falls on the ground,” Paden said. “He gets back up, I pull him up. I remember that because I felt so bad I dropped him two feet off the ground.”The Marine thanked Paden, who offered the wounded…
