Forget the days when shooters had to spend a fortune for reliable glass. We’re living in a golden age of optics, where even newcomers are producing high-quality, feature-packed sights at reasonable prices. One of those rising names is Gideon Optics, the optics division of JSD Supply. Founded in 2022, this Pennsylvania-based company set out to bridge the gap between affordability and performance. Interestingly, it was named after one of my Old Testament heroes, Gideon. He was a warrior, a leader, and a prophet, and is found in the book of Judges.  During the summer of 2023, the company launched its…

I booked a 2-week trip to Iceland in September, knowing the weather might be rainy and unpredictable. Still, I hadn’t anticipated the amount of cold and muck that such conditions create in that part of the world. Thankfully, I’d packed my Merry People Tully Ankle Rain Boots. Whether I was traipsing through puddles at a campsite, enduring a brief sunshower in the capital city of Reykjavik, or hiking through the mist at some of Europe’s largest waterfalls, these boots kept my feet dry and warm.  This well-made boot can be worn in all seasons; (photo/Michelle Polizzi) Plus, the platform sole…

A couple of days ago, I wrote a story about a man in the UK who was arrested and charged with terrorism-related offenses simply because he had the recipe for gunpowder. While the story doesn’t explicitly say exactly which recipe he had, it was probably black powder, which is actually a pretty simple concoction. But just possessing the recipe may well land this man in prison, all for a bit of information written on a piece of paper. Now, this is in the UK, not the United States, but some here want to try and prohibit people…

Photo: Parker Young, Janel Parrish Credit: ©2025 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Fred Hayes (Used under fair use) In “Christmas on Duty,” Hallmark’s latest Christmas romp, director Jake Van Wagoner takes audiences to Quantico, Virginia, for a holiday caper that tackles a subject all too familiar to many Marines and veterans: Standing duty on Christmas. While the cozy flick features many of the standard-issue tropes that the holiday romance genre is known for, the Marine…

When five Chinese nationals were caught allegedly taking photos near classified military equipment at Camp Grayling in Northern Michigan in 2023, it wasn’t an isolated incident.Instead, it’s part of a “constant probing” of military installations, the head of the Michigan National Guard told state lawmakers Wednesday, Nov. 5.“The People’s Republic of China are very active in their information gathering, intelligence collection,” said Major General Paul D. Rogers, the adjutant general of the Michigan National Guard. “You see it through businesses, you see it through military sites, training. It’s not uncommon. I’d almost say it’s pretty routine for Chinese nationals ……

Blade aficionados know that having the right tool to get the job done is a non-negotiable. William Kirk of Washington Gun Law opened this one by admitting what most of us were thinking: “We don’t have the intestinal fortitude to sit through Everytown’s new gun training program.” Luckily, Lee Williams — the Gun Writer himself and chief editor of the Second Amendment Foundation’s Investigative Journalism Project — took the hit for the team. Williams, a former cop, veteran, and lifelong instructor, signed up for Everytown’s $20 “Smart Guide to Buying a Gun” course to see what the other side was teaching. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t much. “It was the worst instruction I’ve ever seen,” Williams said.…

Voters handed veterans a powerful spotlight on Election Day on Tuesday, turning New Jersey, New York and Virginia into a showcase for former service members now leading the charge in public office.Election results showed voters rewarding candidates with military backgrounds at every level of government. New Jersey delivered the night’s biggest veteran-related political headline when Democrat Mikie Sherrill, a congresswoman and former Navy helicopter pilot, defeated Republican opponent Ciattarelli in the state’s gubernatorial race by about 13 percentage points. The races and their results were widely viewed as a precursor to the 2026 midterm elections, which typically benefit the party not…

For the second time ever, last month I flew to North Carolina to do some off-roading in the gritty southern mud. But in this case, the media program was not specifically aimed to demonstrate the off-roading capability of a new vehicle. Yes, I would be driving the new Honda Passport TrailSport, and I learned plenty about this mildly upfitted crossover. But more importantly, Honda wanted to provide a primer on the specific kind of off-road training that the company’s own engineers undergo before even working on vehicles like the Passport TrailSport. Dubbed “Honda Foundational Training,” the program’s origins trace back…

There’s no low that anti-gun states won’t stoop to if they think they can get away with it. The latest example comes out of the anti-gun mecca of Massachusetts. The very state where the American Revolution kicked off in response to the British trying gun control on American shores is now taking a new step in its own gun control journey. As it is, they’re notoriously bad about blaming law-abiding citizens for the actions of criminals who didn’t follow the law to arm themselves in the first place, but now, they’re going after gun companies. They’re…

Weatherby’s 307 Range XP in 7 PRC blends a familiar 700-style action, a crisp TriggerTech, and a huntable mag sporter barrel. We shot groups, ran chrono data, and lived with the quirks to see if it truly earns a place in the truck. First Impressions: A Weatherby That Looks Different, Shoots Familiar When I opened the box and saw the Weatherby 307 Range XP for the first time, I was a little surprised. I was asked if I wanted to review a Weatherby rifle, and I was excited to do so. I had never seen the 307 design before, and…

Continuing U.S. military attacks on boats and individuals accused of trafficking narcotics through the Caribbean and potentially in association with Venezuela has drawn differing reactions from the Trump administration and members of Congress.Questions by legislators in Washington abound on whether they should have the official say in terms of escalated military aggression off the South American coast, where both Venezuela and Columbia have been embroiled with the U.S. as tensions have risen in recent weeks—in addition to claims that briefings have been held but have shut out some of the highest-elected lawmakers due to partisanship or otherwise.More than 60 individuals…

This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog.  What is the Fed not telling us?  The numbers clearly indicate that big trouble is brewing in the banking system.  I wish that I could specifically tell you which banks are in the most trouble, but at this stage, we simply aren’t being told anything.  They probably figure that the best approach is to try to keep everyone as calm as possible.  But they won’t be able to keep a lid on what is going on indefinitely, and when word finally gets out, people could start to…

We’ve all heard the adage: it’s about the journey, not the destination. No one knows this to be true more than hunters. From months of planning and preparation to early mornings and long days in the backcountry, hunting is the ultimate practice of delayed gratification. Think: 90% journey, 10% destination, in a good season. That’s why a hunter’s ride is one of the most important pieces of equipment they can invest in.  The 2025 Ram 2500 isn’t just a work truck. It’s a capable, comfortable, and trail-ready hunting partner. Whether you’re hauling into a remote camp or just need a…

I get that not everyone agrees with us on guns. I can even accept that to some degree. People have their own interpretations of the facts, and sometimes, people are dumb. It’s an inescapable fact of life, unfortunately. But a lot of times, the anti-gun folks aren’t as stupid as we might like to believe. They know exactly what they’re doing. We know this not because of what they say, but what they omit in their push to infringe on our Second Amendment rights. This op-ed out of Tallahassee is a prime example. After the Nov. 2, 2018,…

When you say “9mm 2011,” folks either lean in or their eyes glaze over. I admit I’m the old guy who grew up on .45 1911s, but I also get the appeal: double-stack 9mm is the new kid on the 1911 block, and the 2011 feels like the natural next step. If you’re one of the purists who thinks anything but .45 in a 1911 is sacrilege—well, Colt put a 9mm Commander out in 1950, so history’s already got your back. With NATO’s rise and the flood of double-stack 9mm pistols, a 9mm 1911 was inevitable. I own both styles,…

Gun control advocates will, from time to time, point to polls that they claim show very broad support for various anti-Second Amendment measures. Sometimes, they’ll show some that they claim illustrate that the support is strong even among gun owners. Of course, sometimes, those polls are constructed in a very poor manner, counting on many people not to understand the issue in any depth and just ask a passing question that can be easily misinterpreted. It’s slimy, but it happens. However, an op-ed at the New York Times argues that, particularly with single-issue polls on topics…

What was supposed to be a one-day hunting trip turned into a three-week fight for survival for 65-year-old Ron Dailey, a California hunter who went missing in mid-October and was miraculously found alive after 20 days in the Sierra wilderness. His family quickly contacted the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, launching a massive search and rescue effort across rugged terrain made even more treacherous by freezing nights and dwindling daylight. Dailey, who is diabetic, reportedly had food for only two weeks and no access to…
