Not every person is inherently violent. One reason I will never support laws that strip gun rights from adults under 21, even if a violent crime were never committed by anyone outside of that age group, is that it disarms those who don’t represent a threat to anyone. Some people are violent and need to be dealt with, and everyone else should be left the hell alone.

Yes, the Second Amendment is the other reason I won’t support such a law.

There are bad eggs who walk among us, and the justice system is a slow-moving machine, which has shown itself to be a failure multiple times. Like, take the shooting in Macon, GA, I wrote about last week. I blasted the media reporting on it, but part of that was that we also didn’t know much more.

Now, we do, and it involves at least some of the accused gunmen, and wouldn’t you know it? One of them was walking around free while awaiting trial for a previous shooting.

The first two men were arrested on Monday and identified as 24-year-old David Vincent Pitts and 20-year-old Jaquez Bailey. Pitts was charged with 12 counts of aggravated assault and party to a crime, while Bailey was charged with 12 counts of aggravated assault, per BSO.

…

Additionally, just a couple of weeks later, Pitts was arrested in connection with the Baymont Inn & Suites shooting on July 11, 2023, per a WGXA report.

The “double shooting” left a 62-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man injured. However, both were later listed in stable condition.

On July 24, 2023, deputies identified Pitts after a search of the Baymont Inn & Suites that led to the discovery of multiple firearms, including one that was reported stolen.

According to BSO, Pitts was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of reckless conduct and two counts of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.

So for three years, Pitts has been walking around free, charges hanging over his head, and he was able to (allegedly) carry out this shooting that left 12 people injured. No, he didn’t do it alone, but I think that we need to take a step back and realize that the only reason there aren’t 14 bodies right now is that Pitts can’t shoot worth a damn.

And thank God for small favors.

This is not someone who seems to be worthy of walking around free. Not unless he somehow straightens the hell up and stops shooting people. I can’t help but wonder how many other contacts he’s had with police, how many other cases where he’s thought to have done something but there wasn’t enough evidence to arrest him. How many people has he hurt and gotten away with it?

Yeah, he’s innocent until proven guilty, and I won’t pretend that an arrest automatically means someone’s guilty. Tate Adamiak taught me better than that, if no one else had.

But the evidence is clear that he’s knee-deep in a criminal subculture and fully embraces a lawless lifestyle. It lends credence to the charges against him and Pitts should probably go away for a very, very long time. The question is whether the judge and jury in Bibb County, GA will step up and take care of business, or will more people end up hurt along the way.
