I was hemming and hawing on the chairlift at Kirkwood this spring. Knowing I wasn’t the biggest BOA fan, and sporting quite narrow feet, I stared down at the shiny new Dalbello Veloce Space 120 Dual BOAs that enveloped my toes with a bit of dismay. Ski boot testing is tough work. You parse the ischemic pain, slop, and shin bang caused by an improper fit from a boot that is downright bad. Next, figure out who the brand made the boot for and whom it will serve. And yet, after I spent what felt like three eternities cranking both BOA dials all…
One of the most bizarre talking points among anti-gun zealots is that the Second Amendment preserves a collective right, that “the right of the people” really meant the states, even though the Constitution specifies states and numerous points. For these folks, the idea that the Second Amendment is an individual right was something that sprang up in the 20th Century, fully formed as if from the head of Zeus. Kostas Moros has a really good thread debunking that claim with 19th-century sources on X.However, Catherine Salgado, writing at our sister site, PJ Media, has a…
This article was originally published by Tyler Durden at ZeroHedge. Brent crude surged 27% over two weeks to settle at $96.78 a barrel on Friday, briefly breaching $100 this past week as traders priced in a higher war-risk premium into energy markets amid simultaneous chokepoint threats to the Strait of Hormuz and the southern Red Sea. Meanwhile, the US appeared to pause its 13-day campaign of daily overnight strikes against Iran. While there was no indication that the operational halt would extend into next week, the pause certainly reinforces the diplomatic signals highlighted in our US-Iran wrap on Friday. However, there was an escalation overnight…
Toledo officials are warning that, unless residents approve a 0.25 percent local tax on their income this November, the Ohio city could be forced to cancel an upcoming police academy and leave openings on the force unfilled. The problem is that the proposed tax hike won’t just help pay for police and fire department services. The city council has also included funding for “violence prevention” programs, without explaining what groups would be funded and what kind of accountability they’d face after receiving taxpayer dollars. Toledo City Council member Erin Kramer said the additional funding would help…

Pennsylvania has enacted a law requiring staff who support veterans in the state to receive more training on different service-related physical and psychological traumas in order to enhance the care they provide to veterans. Under the measure, House Bill 2024, County Veteran Assistance Directors must complete extra training and certification in areas including trauma-informed care, military sexual trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Veteran Trauma There are nearly 700,000 veterans in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), nearly one in three women and one in 50 men in the armed forces…
Fifty years ago, the gun control lobby’s position was that handguns should (and could) be banned without violating the Second Amendment, but they had no interest in going after “sporting” arms. Even today it’s not uncommon for anti-gun politicians to argue that nobody “needs” a particular firearm to hunt deer or turkey, which insinuates that they believe those guns are okay to possess, at least in limited circumstances. In court, however, the gun control lobby is making a very different argument. A supplemental brief was filed by the anti-gun amici in our lawsuit challenging the NFA, where…
Straw buys are illegal. If you buy a gun for someone when you know they can’t lawfully own one, that is a crime, and you may well end up in jail. If someone asks you to buy a gun for them, there’s a good chance they can’t do it themselves for a very good reason. Don’t do it. But there’s also profit to be made by buying guns for others. Because most criminals don’t care about the law, do care about money, and don’t think they’ll ever get caught because they’re too smart, you get…

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been quick to point the finger at Republican politicians when a high-profile shooting takes place in a red state, most recently blaming Louisiana lawmakers (and the gun lobby) for the mass shooting in Shreveport last weekend. Newsom hasn’t had much to say about the attempted shooting at the White House Correspondents Association dinner in D.C. last night, even though the suspect in the attack is a California resident who apparently was able to lawfully acquire the guns he used despite all of the Golden State’s gun control laws. Allen — who…
A bill introduced recently by two longtime anti-gun Democrat U.S. senators, both from Virginia, would export the Commonwealth’s recent tragic move toward a totalitarian state to the rest of the country. The measure, by U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine and U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, is even named the “Virginia Plan To Reduce Gun Violence,” a slap in the face to gun owners in Virginia and throughout the nation. As most readers know, Virginia passed a wide range of gun control bills this session, including a sweeping ban on common firearms and magazines, which is still awaiting legislative confirmation of Gov. Abigail…
