Police are on the hunt for a woman who stands accused of stealing $8,500 from a bank by using a fraudulent military identification card. The Shreverport Police Department in Louisiana has asked for the public’s help in identifying the unknown woman, who is accused of stealing the money on July 15, at BOM Bank. Police said the woman used the ID to obtain a cash advance on the victim’s credit line. But the land is claimed to be a private getaway paid for by strangers who thought they were helping veterans. A Marine veteran who spent his post-military career as a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer was mourned by his community on Friday after being shot earlier this month. Austin Abdelnabi, a 30-year-old veteran, was shot Aug. 4 when he responded to a call for a suspect with a gun. The reported gun battle took place in the 4500 block of East Tropicana Avenue in the city. On Feb. 2, 1945, near a Japanese-held ridge north of Loi-Kang in central Burma, 1st Lt. Jack Llewellyn Knight led his cavalrymen into one of the most ferocious small-unit engagements of the China-Burma-India theater. An enemy grenade blinded him mid-assault. Veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses looking for work will have a chance to meet with employers nationwide during the free National Virtual Veterans Career Fair on May 19. The online event, hosted by Disabled American Veterans and RecruitMilitary, will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Central and is open to veterans, active-duty personnel, National Guard members, reservists, military spouses and dependents. Marines are adding a rotational force to Alaska under the new Campaign Alaska launched May 9. The U.S. Marine Corps is pairing Marine Rotational Force-Alaska (MRF-Alaska) with a permanent Supporting Arms Liaison Team-Alaska (SALT-Alaska) at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson to give Marines regular training in extreme cold and complex terrain.
