Tulsi Gabbard’s resignation as Director of National Intelligence (DNI) has opened a major vacancy inside the Trump administration’s national security team. Gabbard resigned last week, saying in a resignation letter that she was stepping down to care for her husband, Abraham Williams, after he was diagnosed with “an extremely rare form of bone cancer” and that he would face “major challenges in the coming weeks and months.” Privately, however, multiple reports indicated that her departure followed months of internal tension, political isolation, and growing frustration within the Trump administration over her role in national security policy. Gabbard, when in office…

Most hunters know there are few things more frustrating than seeing a mature buck wasted. Texas game wardens say one New Braunfels man allegedly made a habit of it. According to investigators, 55-year-old Darrell Maguire is facing 74 charges after allegedly illegally killing at least 13 white-tailed bucks across Comal, Hays, and Bexar counties over an 11-month period. Authorities claim many of the deer were shot with a crossbow from a vehicle, their heads removed, and their carcasses left behind. If the allegations prove true, it’s the kind of case that gives ethical hunters a bad name and fuels criticism…

There is something to be said about squirrel hunting. It does not have the appeal of deer hunting, which is an entire industry and pursuit in itself, chock full of gear and guns. The very concept of hunting in the media is predicated on the pursuit of deer. By comparison, squirrel hunting and small game hunting more generally is more minimal. Squirrels can be hunted with a general license and no special tags, often close to home. Legal squirrel guns in most states—rimfire rifles, shotguns, or muzzleloaders—are widely available and usually cheaper than centerfire deer rifles. Over the years, my…

The United States is unique in that it not only recognizes the right to keep and bear arms and vows to preserve it, via our Second Amendment, but that it also does a much better job of protecting that right than literally anywhere else. Mexico, for example, has something about protecting the right to keep and bear arms in its constitution, but it has never actually protected it in the least. Most other countries don’t even acknowledge it.I can’t help but think about that fact when we look at Iran right now.Yes, we’re bombing the snot…

Iran has launched a series of strikes against Israel in retaliation for a “preemptive” joint strike from Washington and Jerusalem. The initial strikes by the United States and Israel were said to be in response to a degradation in nuclear talks with Iran. On Saturday morning, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that the country had carried out a “preemptive strike” on Iran to “remove threats against the State of Israel.”  United States President Donald Trump later confirmed that American forces are participating, while vowing to dismantle the Iranian nuclear program, “raze [Iranian] missile industry,” and “annihilate their navy.” According to a report…

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is crying foul over a local prosecutor’s determination that a Jacksonville city employee did not violate a state statute prohibiting the creation of any kind of list of gun owners when they established a registry for concealed carry licensees who visited City Hall.  In a post on X, Uthmeier announced that his office is opening up civil proceedings against the city, which could result in a $5 penalty. Jacksonville’s firearm registry exposed law-abiding firearm owners to the very dangers that the prohibition was meant to prevent. My office is correcting @SAO4Florida’s misinterpretation…

Images by the author unless otherwise noted When you speak of manufacturers of reloading equipment, certain brands might pop into your head… RCBS, Hornady, Lee Precision, Lyman, Dillon Precision, Redding, Forster… but maybe not Frankford Arsenal, at least on the first go-round. I know that I was a bit surprised to find that they make not only case prep tools like tumblers, but are a full-line manufacturer of all things reloading. (Read: presses.) The reloader in me got interested, so I checked their website and saw one co-axial press, two single-stage presses, a turret press, and the only 10-stage progressive…

The greatest part about gear is that it’s always evolving and getting better. Nowhere is that more evident than at Denver’s Outdoor Market Alliance (OMA) gear show, where some of the hottest and most innovative brands gather biannually to show off their latest and greatest products. And this year, for the winter show, they brought their A-game. GearJunkie hit the floor of OMA running, buzzing around from brand to brand, getting the lowdown on some of the coolest gear we’ve seen all season. We saw premium rooftop tents with built-in couches, Kevlar avalanche airbag vests, the most versatile headlamp we’ve…

Usually, when I see something from outside of the United States that is even remotely associated with gun control, it’s someone who doesn’t live here saying that we should totally do what the rest of the world did because rights aren’t really a good reason to preserve a right, or something to that effect. Every now and then, though, we get something kind of based.I’m not quite sure I’ll put this piece in that camp, but I do appreciate it. After all, when someone looks beyond high-profile shootings and looks at American high-profile stabbings, it’s…

Costa Rica banned sport hunting years ago. And recently, it emphasized that point to the world. Under the country’s Wildlife Conservation Law No. 7317, hunting is broadly prohibited, with only narrow exceptions for population control and subsistence. If you’re a North American hunter hoping Costa Rica might one day reopen opportunities, this law makes it clear that’s not the direction they’re heading. Let’s break it down. Sport Hunting? Explicitly Prohibited Article 14 lays it out plainly: “Hunting for sport is strictly prohibited; hunting shall be permitted solely for population control and subsistence.” That’s not vague language. That’s a hard line.…

Global oil prices jumped by as much as 13% on Monday. This major spike comes after a round of intense joint United States-Israeli strikes on Iran triggered major concerns about global economic disruption of tanker traffic. Vessels travelling through the Strait of Hormuz have already been heavily impacted as attacks continue across the Middle East. Multiple vessels in the area have received VHF transmission from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards that “no ship is allowed to pass the Strait of Hormuz”, an official with the European Union naval mission Aspides told Reuters. The Strait of Hormuz is the narrow waterway between Iran…

After listening to the full two hours of oral arguments in U.S. v. Hemani on Monday morning, I’m willing to make a couple of predictions. First, a majority of the justices will find in favor of defendant Ali Danial Hemani, who argues that Section 922(g)(3)’s prohibition on gun possession for “unlawful” users of drugs violates his Second Amendment rights, and that the majority will not be the same makeup as the majority in Bruen or even the Rahimi decision allowing individuals subject to domestic violence restraining orders from being temporarily disarmed.  Justice Clarence Thomas was the first justice to…

President Donald Trump’s Make America Beautiful Again (MABA) Commission has officially launched its long-range conservation strategy. And for hunters, it’s worth paying attention. Unveiled February 11, 2026, the initiative, called MABA 250, is being framed as a results-driven blueprint to conserve America’s lands and waters while expanding outdoor recreation opportunities. Chaired by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, the strategy is designed not just as a short-term policy push, but as a governing conservation framework looking ahead to America’s 250th anniversary and beyond. “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” –President Donald J. President Donald Trump has, without a doubt, done more for gun rights than any prior administration, at least within my lifetime. Even the great Ronald Reagan managed to take us a step backward with the 1986 machine gun ban, so Trump has that going for him. The problem, as I’ve already hinted at, is that the bar was so low, an amoeba couldn’t limbo under it even with the help of a shovel. It didn’t really take all that much.Which is why I can acknowledge where he stands in gun rights history and still have a…
