Forget the days when shooters had to spend a fortune for reliable glass. We’re living in a golden age of optics, where even newcomers are producing high-quality, feature-packed sights at reasonable prices. One of those rising names is Gideon Optics, the optics division of JSD Supply. Founded in 2022, this Pennsylvania-based company set out to bridge the gap between affordability and performance. Interestingly, it was named after one of my Old Testament heroes, Gideon. He was a warrior, a leader, and a prophet, and is found in the book of Judges.  During the summer of 2023, the company launched its…

I booked a 2-week trip to Iceland in September, knowing the weather might be rainy and unpredictable. Still, I hadn’t anticipated the amount of cold and muck that such conditions create in that part of the world. Thankfully, I’d packed my Merry People Tully Ankle Rain Boots. Whether I was traipsing through puddles at a campsite, enduring a brief sunshower in the capital city of Reykjavik, or hiking through the mist at some of Europe’s largest waterfalls, these boots kept my feet dry and warm.  This well-made boot can be worn in all seasons; (photo/Michelle Polizzi) Plus, the platform sole…

A couple of days ago, I wrote a story about a man in the UK who was arrested and charged with terrorism-related offenses simply because he had the recipe for gunpowder. While the story doesn’t explicitly say exactly which recipe he had, it was probably black powder, which is actually a pretty simple concoction. But just possessing the recipe may well land this man in prison, all for a bit of information written on a piece of paper. Now, this is in the UK, not the United States, but some here want to try and prohibit people…

Photo: Parker Young, Janel Parrish Credit: ©2025 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Fred Hayes (Used under fair use) In “Christmas on Duty,” Hallmark’s latest Christmas romp, director Jake Van Wagoner takes audiences to Quantico, Virginia, for a holiday caper that tackles a subject all too familiar to many Marines and veterans: Standing duty on Christmas. While the cozy flick features many of the standard-issue tropes that the holiday romance genre is known for, the Marine…

When five Chinese nationals were caught allegedly taking photos near classified military equipment at Camp Grayling in Northern Michigan in 2023, it wasn’t an isolated incident.Instead, it’s part of a “constant probing” of military installations, the head of the Michigan National Guard told state lawmakers Wednesday, Nov. 5.“The People’s Republic of China are very active in their information gathering, intelligence collection,” said Major General Paul D. Rogers, the adjutant general of the Michigan National Guard. “You see it through businesses, you see it through military sites, training. It’s not uncommon. I’d almost say it’s pretty routine for Chinese nationals ……

The warnings of war continue as NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) chief Mark Rutte has claimed that a confrontation with Russia won’t end once the conflict with Ukraine ends. Rutte added that NATO member-states must boost military production to be ready for a prolonged standoff with Russia and others. While speaking to Western defense contractors at the NATO-Industry Forum in Bucharest on Thursday, Rutte told the bloc’s arms makers that “there is more cash on the table and even more will flow” amid NATO’s rearmament push. According to a report by RT, Rutte also said that the fighting between Moscow and…

William Kirk of Washington Gun Law opened this one by admitting what most of us were thinking: “We don’t have the intestinal fortitude to sit through Everytown’s new gun training program.” Luckily, Lee Williams — the Gun Writer himself and chief editor of the Second Amendment Foundation’s Investigative Journalism Project — took the hit for the team. Williams, a former cop, veteran, and lifelong instructor, signed up for Everytown’s $20 “Smart Guide to Buying a Gun” course to see what the other side was teaching. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t much. “It was the worst instruction I’ve ever seen,” Williams said.…

Voters handed veterans a powerful spotlight on Election Day on Tuesday, turning New Jersey, New York and Virginia into a showcase for former service members now leading the charge in public office.Election results showed voters rewarding candidates with military backgrounds at every level of government. New Jersey delivered the night’s biggest veteran-related political headline when Democrat Mikie Sherrill, a congresswoman and former Navy helicopter pilot, defeated Republican opponent Ciattarelli in the state’s gubernatorial race by about 13 percentage points. The races and their results were widely viewed as a precursor to the 2026 midterm elections, which typically benefit the party not…

If you own one of the following Lezyne bike pumps, you may want to stop using it. The California-based brand announced a recall on Thursday for about 7,500 of its bike pumps for a manufacturing issue. The pumps’ canisters can forcefully eject from the base when pressurized, posing a risk of serious injury from impact to the user or bystanders, according to a recall notice published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. If you’re not hitting with your shotgun as much as you’d like, odds are it’s because you’re using a gun that doesn’t really fit you. Gun-to-shooter fit affects accuracy and results more in a shotgun than any other kind of firearm. The problem is, most shooters don’t know the factors that go into a good fit, or how to make a gun they already own fit them better. A shotgun that fits you as it should works better because it mounts naturally in your shoulder pocket, doesn’t beat you up with recoil and lets you look out over the barrel…

If there’s one thing we’ve been told by the ruling class repeatedly since the beginning of the COVID-19 scamdemic, it’s that there will be another one and we aren’t prepared for it. Former White House advisor Deborah Birx said Wednesday that she thinks “we” are less prepared than we were before COVID-19. Bill Gates infamously warned with a smirk that the next plandemic will get attention. Does that mean it’ll be real? That people will get more than a cold and they won’t have to fake the statistics because we’ll be able to see the damage being done with our…

Gun control seems to go in ebbs and flows. Some things are pressing issues right here, right now, while other things become bigger issues later on. Right now, a lot of people are focusing on so-called assault weapons, but we all know that those kinds of laws aren’t going to be permitted to survive following the Bruen decision. So what’s next? Well, based on a story at Vox, I can’t help but think mandatory storage is going to become a bigger focus. Despite the horrific toll of firearm violence, America remains deeply divided on guns, and hopes for any kind of comprehensive…

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Massachusetts Air National guardsman accused of leaking highly classified military documents kept an arsenal of weapons, talked of “violence and murder” on a social media platform and an “assassination van,” prosecutors wrote ahead of Thursday’s hearing for 21-year-old Jack Teixeira. The court filings raise new questions about why Teixeira had such a high security clearance and access to some of the nation’s most classified secrets. They said he may still have material that hasn’t been released. Late Wednesday, the Air Force announced it suspended the commander of the 102nd Intelligence Support Squadron where Teixeira worked and…

Gun cases with foam inserts are a time-tested and approved method of transporting firearms safely. However, they have a drawback. Once you’ve plucked or cut the foam to fit, there is no going back. That case will only fit that gun until/unless you replace the foam. For this reason, KOR Cases created the VRS (Vacuum Rigidizing Structure) Suspension System. By replacing the foam in your case with the VRS system, you can transport any gun at any time with the perfect fit.The KOR VRS Suspension SystemConstructed of MIL-SPEC textiles, the VRS Suspension System is durable for long life and repeated…

I have a personal story to share of a near-miss incident that almost cost my life and quite possibly the lives of others as well. This happened almost 20 years ago in the Chicagoland area. I was driving my car at around 60 mph on one of the freeways near Chicago, while trying to tune my car stereo to a radio station. For younger readers unfamiliar with FM radio, this is something drivers did in an era before smartphones, streaming music, podcasts, and Apple CarPlay / Android Auto stereos that take voice commands. An improved model of Microsoft Corp.’s goggles won’t be deployed to U.S. Army combat troops for at least two years because the company must first demonstrate it has fixed flaws that left soldiers with headaches, nausea and eyestrain, according to the Army. If the goggle passes its tests, a version will be fielded starting in July 2025, the Army said in a statement. The latest version is slimmer and lighter and is designed “to greatly improve soldier comfort,” Microsoft said in a statement. Software improvements are also intended to result in greater reliability and reduced power demand. Microsoft’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System, or…

By Rob Morse Lies come in many shapes and sizes. Some are simple exaggerations. Some are absurd falsehoods. Unfortunately, we tend to believe a plain, bold-faced lie if it’s expressed with enough emotion. That’s the same kind thing keeps viewers watching and clicking so the press is often more interested in outrage than in the truth. A lie doesn’t become the truth no matter how many times it’s repeated, but the lie may help politicians get re-elected if it’s repeated often enough and believed by enough likely voters. We need to call out every lie we see even if that…

On the heels of the shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, it’s unsurprising to see many states taking steps they believe would prevent such a shooting. Others may be taking steps they were going to take anyway, it just looks like a response to Nashville because of timing. A bill over state-funded gun training for teachers in Indiana could fall into either category, though I don’t really care which. I don’t care because it’s a good idea. Luckily, it seems lawmakers agree with me. Indiana state lawmakers have sent the state’s Republican governor a bill that would create…
