Seol Kyung-chul’s father fought alongside U.S. troops during the Korean War and had his life saved by American Marines. Decades later and in his father’s memory, the renowned artist is giving back to family and his nation’s decades-long ally—all through a gigantic work of art that has found a unique resting spot in Washington D.C. On May 13, the Pentagon unveiled Alliance 70—an 8.6-by-10.6-foot piece of contemporary art created by Kyung-Chul and composed of 300,000 tiny images that form the South Korean Taeguk symbol—during the 28th Korean Integrated Defense Dialogue. The artwork is the first to be donated by a…

Big move out of D.C. for hunters and anglers. The U.S. House just passed the Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at keeping traditional ammo and tackle in play on public lands and protecting the funding that comes with it. The National Shooting Sports Foundation is calling it a major win. And honestly, it’s not hard to see why. At the center of the bill is a pretty straightforward idea: before the government bans lead ammo or fishing tackle, it has to prove (using site-specific, peer-reviewed science) that it’s actually harming wildlife populations. No assumptions.…

When an unimaginable situation suddenly becomes real, it’s easy to understand proper protection. Seeing is believing, especially when it comes to carrying pepper spray — and actually putting it to critical use in the field. And when Curtis Matwishyn saw a black bear in Saskatchewan’s Waskesiu–Prince Albert National Park, he certainly became a believer. Matwishyn, a wildland firefighter and nature photographer, first spotted the young bear 100 yards off a trail and began snapping some photos. When the bear followed him down the trail and then off it (in his attempts to evade), Matwishyn put down his camera and began…

The USPS has announced that yes, you can ship handguns via the United States Postal Service. I’m still not convinced that you’ll want to, mind you, but like most gun rights supporters, that’s beside the point. The fact that a governmental entity, even a quasi-private one like USPS, is, in theory, restricted guns like that was always going to be a bad thing. Now, the rules seem to be changing, and the NRA’s Frank Miniter asked whether or not they’ll actually allow it. Plus, there are other…obstacles. While it’s still too early to tell just how…

Every hunter has heard it before: Know your regs. Tag your animal. Do it right. Because when you don’t… it can get expensive. Real expensive. According to reporting from CTV News, one U.S. hunter just learned that lesson the hard way after a moose hunt in Ontario went completely off the rails. Larry Szura of Wisconsin was hit with a $28,750 fine and a 10-year hunting ban in Ontario after being found guilty of multiple violations tied to an illegal moose harvest near Pickle Lake. And this wasn’t just a paperwork issue. According to Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources, conservation…

When background checks for gun sales dipped below 1 million last July, anti-gun advocates sighed with relief. The nearly six-year-long streak had come to an end, and gun-banners were hopeful it would usher in a new era of lower gun sales. Judging by the latest March numbers, those hopes were false. The March National Shooting Sports Foundation-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 1,412,917 is a 1.9% increase from the 1,386,724 in March 2025. It is also a 13% increase over the February total. For comparison, the unadjusted March 2026 FBI NICS figure of 2,212,094 reflects a 10.5%…

Ruler of the United States, Donald Trump, has proposed a $1.5 trillion “defense” budget in order to fund the war with Iran. On Friday, the ruler also requested a 10% cut in non-defense spending for the 2027 fiscal year. This proposal includes a massive $500 billion increase in the military budget, as the U.S. continues its war against Iran. The U.S. Department Of War Seeks “Killer AI” This huge proposed surge in defense spending to $1.5 trillion, up from about $1 trillion in 2026, includes a 5% to 7% pay raise for military personnel at a time when thousands of servicemembers are actively deployed,…

As a major battleground in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, Virginia is home to many important historical sites and public lands, with 22 areas managed by the National Park Service (NPS). Directly adjacent to the nation’s capital is also the world’s data center capital. As data center construction has exploded in Northern Virginia (NOVA), this technological and commercial development has butted up against historic battlefields and other public lands. Across the country, many local communities have organized to oppose data centers, and historic preservation and conservation organizations in these areas of Virginia have joined that fight. Here’s what’s behind the…

After a 7-month-old child was fatally shot in Brooklyn last week, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdami wasted little time in taking to the stump and politicizing the tragedy.  Rather than demand justice for the murder of Kaori Patterson-Moore or announce a crackdown on gang violence in the city, the far-left mayor instead demanded more be done to curb “gun violence.”  New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the fatal shooting of a baby in Brooklyn by a stray bullet a “devastating reminder” of the work that remains to be done to combat gun violence.…

First responders in Phoenix are accustomed to frequent rescues of hikers, who often underestimate the Southwestern city’s infamous heat. But this weekend saw a hiker in need of emergency rescue for a very different reason: an attack from a swarm of bees. According to the Phoenix Fire Department, an unidentified hiker was near the summit of Lookout Mountain on Saturday morning when he was stung many times. In fact, first responders said the adult male was stung more than 100 times. The injuries were bad enough that he was unable to descend from the mountain without help. So Phoenix firefighters…

While I use the term “AI” on a regular basis, I don’t really like it. What we have may look a lot like AI, but it’s really not. There’s no actual intelligence there. It’s just a program that makes a really decent search engine that has figured out how to seem convincing. There’s no real personality there or anything. Still, it’s becoming the default for a lot of people on the internet with questions. We already know some of what’s happening with AI, such as school kids using it to write papers, or how it’s…

The Supreme Court once again took no action on the five different cases involving bans on so-called assault weapons and large capacity magazines in its orders released on Monday, which is frustrating enough for gun owners. To make things worse, the Court denied cert to Schoenthal v. Raoul; the challenge to the law banning concealed carry on public transportation in the state of Illinois and the Chicago Transit Authority’s similar rule prohibiting lawful carry.  The denial of cert means that the ban will stay in place, but it also allows the Seventh Circuit’s ridiculous rationale…
