Though a Virginia judge has granted an injunction blocking the state police from enforcing the gun and magazine ban that’s set to take effect on July 1, a spokesperson for Virginia Attorney General Jay “Two Bullets” Jones says the injunction doesn’t stop local prosecutors and police from enforcing the law. A spokesperson for @AGJayJones says it’s their understanding that yesterday’s decision in Lancaster County on Virginia’s assault weapons ban applies only to the Virginia State Police, and that local Commonwealth’s Attorneys can still enforce the ban on July 1, as of right now.… pic.twitter.com/ntbc4WDwLP— Tyler…
WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday blamed Iran for carrying out a drone strike on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a “foolish violation” of the ceasefire agreement with the United States. One drone damaged the upper deck of the ship, but the vessel was able to proceed, Trump said. The U.S. shot down three other drones aimed at the ship, he said. Trump’s post on social media did not identify the ship or the time of the strike, but on Thursday the British military said a vessel was hit by a projectile…
This article was originally published by Per Bylund at The Mises Institute. Why would anyone invest large sums of capital into creating something new with uncertain income? This question captures the core of the argument for intellectual property, or the legal protection of inventors’ ideas from being copied and put to broader use. The simple logic appears intuitive and therefore persuasive, but does not stand up to scrutiny. Why? Because it applies to all entrepreneurship, which is always an investment in something of uncertain value. Yet this does not seem to stop entrepreneurs. Or, rather, it moderates which entrepreneurial projects are…
Some of the rarest plants and wildlife in the U.S. may soon have their genetic material stored for future recovery work. The Department of the Interior announced on June 25 that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has signed a memorandum of understanding with Colossal Biosciences, a Texas-based biotechnology company known for its work on de-extinction. The agreement focuses on biobanking, genomic science, and the preservation of the genetic diversity of species protected under the Endangered Species Act. Colossal is no stranger to flashy conservation science. The company grabbed headlines after announcing it had created genetically edited gray wolves with…

On top of the sorrow I feel for the loss of life in Montreal, I also feel awful for Canadian gun rights supporters. They did nothing wrong, but the shooting in Montreal is likely to lead to additional gun control that they don’t need and most certainly don’t deserve. Anti-gunners have never been happy that the SKS continues to be legal in the country, even though here, it’s not even considered an “assault weapon” in even the most gun-controlled states. It’s got a fixed magazine (most models, anyway), fires a not particularly powerful round, and…
When retired Marine Maj. James Capers Jr. entered the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes for his Medal of Honor ceremony, he stepped into a room reserved for the nation’s most extraordinary acts of battlefield valor. For much of America, the ceremony was an introduction to one of the Vietnam War’s greatest stories. For many Marines, particularly those in the reconnaissance community, it was something different. It was the nation finally recognizing a leader they had considered legendary for decades. Military decorations often define moments. Within the military, however, reputations are built over entire careers, through the stories that are told in…
As the Ebola strain known as Bundibugyo continues to spread in Uganda, UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) has warned that children are at the highest risk of the disease. Cases have now shot past 1,150, and the death toll has surpassed 300. Just a few days ago, cases reached 1,000. Ebola Outbreak Update: Over 1,000 CONFIRMED Cases As Virus Continues to Spread Children and adolescents account for approximately 15 percent of all confirmed Ebola cases and over 25 percent of confirmed deaths in eastern DRC as of June 19th. UNICEF also stated that children are twice as likely…
Drama doesn’t begin to cover it. Marion Hammer — the 87-year-old former NRA president who created the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program and is widely credited with pioneering Florida’s concealed-carry licensing framework — is suing the NRA for unpaid compensation. And her deposition earlier this month apparently went about as sideways as a deposition can go. According to subscription legal news service Law360, Hammer reportedly told NRA attorney Brian Hayden, “You think you’re God. And I think you’re an asshole,” at some point during the proceedings — and allegedly directed similar language at him multiple times throughout the hearing. Then things…
An Arizona bill making its way through the legislature this session would require K-12 schools to provide “age-appropriate firearm safety awareness education” to students each year. You can read the criteria for the lessons here, but it’s safe to say that it’s not meant to be any kind of backdoor indoctrination to gun ownership or anti-gun activism. The goal is simple: to make kids and juveniles aware of what to do if they come across a firearm. Â Bruce Petillo doesn’t see it that way, though. As he wrote in the Arizona Republic, in his…

Some states prohibit the carrying of a firearm lawfully in polling places. In others, a lot of the polls are gun-free zones simply because they’re held in a school or some other building that’s a gun-free zone. Yet there are a lot of them that aren’t for any reason at all. People carry guns there and never have an issue. But a bill was introduced in Congress that seeks to change that across the nation, and let’s just say it’s going over about like you’d expect.A bill under consideration in the U.S. House of Representatives that…
There’s something fascinating about the gear used in covert operations, especially during the Cold War era. Back when technology was analog and assassinations were analog-er, specialized tools like suppressed .22 pistols weren’t just clever—they were mission-critical. Today, the idea of using a .22 LR for clandestine work may seem outdated, even laughable to some. But the truth is, when paired with the right platform and effective shot placement, the humble rimfire round can be deadly effective. This 1993 article from Soldier of Fortune is a relic in the best sense—packed with practical data, field testing, and insight that still holds…
This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog under the title: Lockdown 2.0: The IEA Has Released 10 Guidelines To Help The Public Prepare For The Coming Fuel Shortages And “Energy Lockdowns” Are we really going to go through this again? It appears that the Iranians are absolutely determined to keep traffic through the Strait of Hormuz paralyzed until they get what they want. In order to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, an absolutely massive military operation would be required, and perhaps we will see such an operation in the days ahead. But for now,…
An event billed as a summit on preventing youth violence in Milwaukee took a surprising turn last week when one of the anti-gun violence advocates in attendance ended up in handcuffs for, among other things, illegally possessing a firearm. The “Past, Present, and Future: Youth & Young Adult Violence Prevention Discussion” was hosted by the Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services, and according to the Milwaukee Courier, which provided some downright obsequious coverage of the event, about 200 people were in attendance. While the event, which was sponsored in large part by the Milwaukee…
I don’t know how many times I’ve pointed out all of the ways that we trust 18 to 20-year-olds to do things that require a high level of responsibility. They can own a house, buy a car, drive it, vote, enlist in the military, sign legally binding contracts, get married, and a host of other things under the law. They’re treated like adults just about everywhere, with a couple of notable exceptions. One is the drinking age, which is stupid, and the other is gun rights. While some states want to prohibit adults under 21 from…

Meagan Heisinger received some good news recently that could help finally bring a veteran family member home. DNA tests confirmed James Bradley Lane is her father. Lane, a Vietnam Army veteran, died in 2017 while living in Washington State. He was 62. However, without next of kin to contact following his death, Lane was designated as an unclaimed veteran. For a few months, Lane’s remains were kept by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office in Tacoma, Washington, until they were recovered by the Missing in America Project, an organization that helps find unclaimed remains of veterans. From there, the Department of Veterans Affairs…
