When a senior national security official walks away in the middle of a war, people notice. That’s exactly what happened this week when Joe Kent stepped down from his role as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, citing deep concerns over the ongoing war with Iran. After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this… pic.twitter.com/prtu86DpEr— Joe Kent (@joekent16jan19) March 17, 2026 And…

Podcast: Play in new window | DownloadYou’ve probably heard it before: that 90% of Americans would die within a year of an EMP attack. It’s one of the most quoted numbers in all of preparedness. But that number didn’t come from a study or model. It came from a single sentence in a 2005 Senate hearing. It wasn’t a forecast—it was one extreme of a range, from no deaths to full collapse. Still, over time, the 90% death rate became gospel. And too many people now treat it as an inevitable outcome, especially in the prepper community. I’m not an…
I love my kids. I care about kids in general. I want them growing up safe and sound, and it bothers me when they get hurt because jackwagons hurt them. When it’s intentional, there’s no punishment allowed by law that’s sufficient, but even when it’s unintentional, it’s something we shouldn’t just shrug off. So I get people wanting to do something to protect kids.I just think that the Louisville Metro Council’s latest resolution is pretty stupid. The Louisville Metro Council reintroduced a revamped “Kids Over Guns” resolution calling for changes to Kentucky’s gun laws and asking…
A bill currently pending in the Kansas Senate would remove state taxes on the sale of firearms, ammunition, firearm accessories, safes, and “firearm safety devices”; essentially a permanent and year-round “tax holiday” as opposed to a tax-free weekend or even a tax-free season that has been adopted in other states. SB 209 has drawn opposition from the League of Kansas Municipalities and the Kansas Association of Counties, who complain that the elimination of those taxes could hurt city and county budgets. That may very well be true, but that doesn’t mean that taxing the exercise…

It took more than six weeks for police in Jefferson City, Missouri to conclude their investigation into a November 1 shooting in the parking lot of a shopping complex, but after speaking to more than a dozen eyewitnesses, viewing surveillance video, and interviewing the gun owner who fatally shot 27-year-old Erik Spencer, law enforcement has concluded that the shooting was a justifiable use of force under Missouri law. Information about the case was submitted to a grand jury, which refused to file any charges against the armed citizen, who shot Spencer to defend a woman…
Attorneys representing the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and its partners have filed a response brief in a lawsuit challenging Massachusetts’ ban on the purchase, carry and possession of nearly all modern firearms by 18-20-year-olds. The brief in opposition was submitted in response to the government’s motion for summary judgment filing in Escher v. Noble. For an individual to purchase or possess a firearm in Massachusetts they must first acquire one of two licenses: a firearm identification card or a license to carry. The only option available to 18-20-year-olds, however, is the identification card. Even with the ID card, residents in this age group are only…

On Thursday, President Donald Trump issued an executive order that rescheduled marijuana from a Schedule 1 drug to a Schedule 3 drug. What that means is that while it’s still a controlled substance, it’s medically legal in all states that haven’t somehow expressly banned it. Because of that, anyone who gets a prescription for the drug isn’t an unlawful user, and thus can’t really be arrested for owning a gun while using it under a doctor’s orders. This is very good news for a whole lot of people. While I get that not everyone is…

By Cody Eardley The AK-47 is one of the top small arms platforms in the world. It’s reliable, cheap to produce, hits hard, and functions in sand, snow, and mud. However, it was designed in the late 1940s, so it lacks many of the features we have come to enjoy on modern firearms. Its wooden handguard has no provisions for mounting lights, lasers, or handstops. The heavy buttstock is nonadjustable, and the smooth dust cover and rounded gas tube have no interface for mounting an optic or a red dot. This has all changed with the introduction of Midwest…
