As the Ebola strain known as Bundibugyo continues to spread in Uganda, UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) has warned that children are at the highest risk of the disease. Cases have now shot past 1,150, and the death toll has surpassed 300. Just a few days ago, cases reached 1,000. Ebola Outbreak Update: Over 1,000 CONFIRMED Cases As Virus Continues to Spread Children and adolescents account for approximately 15 percent of all confirmed Ebola cases and over 25 percent of confirmed deaths in eastern DRC as of June 19th. UNICEF also stated that children are twice as likely…
On the surface, the Supreme Court’s decision striking down Hawaii’s “vampire rule” prohibiting concealed carry by default on all private property open to the public isn’t that big a deal. Hawaii’s law was never actively enforced thanks to an injunction, and there are only three other states (New York, California, and Maryland) that had adopted similar laws after the Supreme Court struck down “may issue” concealed carry four years ago. None of those states were ever able to enforce those laws either, thanks to legal challenges. So why are law professors like Jake Charles and Megan Walsh crashing out over…
Buick, the automaker that once sold models like the Grand National, the Riviera, and Wildcat, has been reduced to a handful of semi-affordable, near-premium SUVs like the Envision. However, as disappointing as its lineup is these days, the SUVs currently available in Buick’s lineup are surprisingly some of the most dependable new cars on the market, according to the latest J.D. Power research. The J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study is now in its 37th year. It covers 184 specific problem areas that span nine main categories: climate, driving assistance, driving experience, exterior, features/controls/displays, infotainment, interior, powertrain, and seats. The 2026…
If you have a VA loan and interest rates drop, you might consider refinancing your mortgage with a VA Interest Rate Reduction Refinance Loan (IRRRL). Unlike a traditional refinance, the IRRRL doesn’t require a home appraisal or inspection, income verification, or tax returns. To take advantage of an IRRRL, you need to certify that you’ve lived in the home at some point, and you can’t take cash out at closing. If you need to tap your home equity for a renovation, emergency expense, or something else, you’d need a VA cash-out refinance instead. You also don’t need to use the…
Minnesotans have five more counties to check before they put out feed, minerals, scents, or attractants. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources added Becker, Clearwater, Grant, McLeod, and Meeker counties to its deer feeding and attractant ban. The agency said it made the change after chronic wasting disease showed up in wild deer in new areas of the state last year. The ban now covers 37 Minnesota counties. Wildlife officials use the rule to limit artificial deer concentrations in areas at higher risk of disease spread. “Where people place food or attractants out for deer, higher numbers of deer tend…
If you have decided to join the military, you are faced with a big decision. Do I go on active duty, or should I join my local National Guard unit? It is not an easy choice and there are many factors to consider. Do I want to serve full time? Am I looking for a way to pay for college? How will my family be impacted? Which option offers better healthcare and retirement benefits? Will I be deployed often? These are all good questions and after reading this article, we hope that it brings clarity to your decision to serve…
This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog. The magnitude 5.6 earthquake that just shook portions of three different states should be a huge wake-up call for everyone who lives in California. The San Andreas Fault system is locked and loaded, and it is just a matter of time before an absolutely cataclysmic earthquake permanently alters the geography of the state. A day is coming when large portions of Southern California will no longer be above water. I have written about this over and over again, and I have warned about this more times than…
BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union on Friday moved to prolong temporary protection status for millions of people who have fled the war in Ukraine, but not for new arrivals who would be eligible to serve in the armed forces. Ukraine is desperate to boost the size of its fighting force more than four years into its full-scale war with Russia. It’s estimated to have suffered around 600,000 military casualties. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in February that 55,000 troops have died and many are missing. More than 4.4 million Ukrainians have been welcomed into the EU since 2022. Most…
MIAMI (AP) — A former Miami congressman and longtime friend of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was convicted Friday in connection with a secret $50 million lobbying campaign on behalf of Venezuela during the first Trump administration. Jurors found Republican David Rivera and an associate, Esther Nuhfer, guilty on all counts, including failing to register as a foreign agent with the Justice Department and conspiracy to commit money laundering as part of their work for former President Nicolás Maduro’s government. Much as he did throughout the trial, Rivera stood stone-faced as the jury delivered its verdict. Rivera had been…
A bill allowing lawful gun owners in the Granite State to carry firearms on most college and university campuses will not take effect this year, even after the House of Representatives gave its stamp of approval. On Thursday, a Senate committee amended the bill to include a provision prohibiting higher ed campuses “from enacting rules or policies restricting the possession, carry, storage, or lawful use of non-lethal weapons,” while creating a study committee to investigate the costs and public safety concerns of a true campus carry law that would cover the concealed carry of firearms. The…
For many video game characters, the threat of death lends some tension to the events of a story. While it is often assumed that the main character must survive to the end of the game, this is not always the case, and the character’s vulnerability drives the events forward. What a character does to escape an untimely demise might help their characterization, or if they fail, open up questions for the other characters and storylines in the game. Sometimes, however, these stakes are thrown out the window to drive the plot forward, regardless of how the circumstances fit within the…
Idaho hunters have a new set of technology rules coming this fall. Gov. Brad Little signed House Bill 939 into law on April 2. The measure takes effect July 1, 2026, and limits the use of certain hunting technologies from Aug. 30 through Dec. 31 each year. During that fall window, hunters can’t use thermal imaging, night vision, drones, or transmitting trail cameras to hunt or scout big game animals or game birds. The bill passed the Idaho House 67-1 and the Senate 29-6. The trail camera language deserves a close read by hunters (and other game cam users). Idaho…
A record-long Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown ended Thursday but still does not fund U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The 76-day political squabble between Republicans and Democrats concluded Thursday when President Donald Trump signed a bill restoring funding to the Coast Guard, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, FEMA, Secret Service and TSA. Republicans are pushing billions in ICE and CBP funding through a reconciliation package to further the Trump administration’s agenda. The bill appropriates $48 billion to the aforementioned DHS agencies. The months-long funding lapse dates back to Feb. 14 when…
Many luxury automakers seem to think more screens – or bigger screens that take up most of the dashboard’s space – is the future. Models like the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class, for example, have so much space allocated to digital displays for the driver and passenger that the brand’s elegance can feel… lessened. While luxury interiors were once distinguished by high-end materials, clocks, and other interfaces that were easy to understand and felt nice to touch, it feels as though some automakers have lost their old visions. However, Hyundai’s luxury division thinks differently. Genesis is a high-end luxury brand that rose…
Amtrak could soon be expanding the number of routes where gun owners can bring their firearms in their checked baggage, and one anti-gun activist has gone off the rails with his response. Amtrak currently allows gun owners to bring their firearms along when they’re passengers on trains that have locked baggage cars. According to the Associated Press, the Trump administration has been pushing Amtrak to expand that access by putting lockboxes on most trains. Passengers still couldn’t carry their firearms on board, but they could at least store them until they get to their destination. This seems…
War is bad for business, unless you’re an arms dealer. It puts the economy into decline, makes people not spend, and can affect supply lines. When World War Two broke out, the US was in one of the better positions compared to the rest of the world to weather the storm. While there was a huge industrial effort to produce as much equipment, weapons, and vehicles for the army as possible, people back home had to get around and still needed new cars. General Motors was one of the most popular automotive companies at this time – with the onslaught…
Summary Not giving up nuclear program: Iran will “guard” its “advanced technologies” like it does its own borders, Mojtaba Khamenei said in a written speech read aloud by state TV. It will “secure the Persian Gulf region and dismantle the hostile enemy’s exploitation of this waterway.” US military teases cutting-edge, not yet tested in battle, hypersonic missiles for the Mideast region as CENTCOM head set to brief Trump on further military options at White House. Brent crude for June delivery reached as much as $126 a barrel in trading on Thursday, before easing to $114, as oil prices have surged to their highest levels since…
In theory, preemption laws should stop local governments from trying to push through local gun control. After all, they know it won’t stand as it violates state law, so why bother? Why not do something more productive, like licking door knobs and calling them “Lucille.” Yeah, I’m not running on much sleep right now, so things could get weird. Anywho…preemption. The truth of the matter is that despite the laws on the books in numerous states, you still get little twerp in local government who thinks he or she matters more than they do, trying to…

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared before Congress at a pair of hourslong hearings this week for the first time since the Trump administration went to war against Iran, with the Pentagon chief facing tough questions from skeptical Democrats. Hegseth seemed to emerge with solid Republican support over his leadership and handling of the war. But a few GOP lawmakers questioned his dismissal of a top Army general, while some sought assurances that the Pentagon is doing everything possible to prevent civilian deaths. The hearings Wednesday and Thursday before the House and Senate Armed Services committees delved into the…
