The latest Iranian-linked alleged assassination plot targeting Ivanka Trump, combined with yet another purported attempt to harm the president, displays how rising levels of political violence have become more routine.

Federal authorities on Friday accused an Iraqi national with alleged ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of plotting to assassinate the president’s daughter as retaliation for the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, was reportedly arrested in Turkey earlier this month before being extradited to the United States, according to the Times of Israel. Authorities allege he coordinated or supported multiple attacks tied to Iran-backed militant networks across Europe and North America.

The alleged plot coincided with yet another alleged assassination attempt on President Donald Trump this past weekend. The White House briefly entered lockdown the evening of May 23 after multiple bursts of gunfire were heard near the executive complex, sending reporters, staff and Secret Service personnel scrambling for cover during a chaotic scene captured live on television and social media.

Video shared online showed ABC News White House correspondent Selina Wang visibly ducking and running for cover as loud bursts echoed across the grounds. Other reporters described being ordered into the White House briefing room while armed Secret Service agents moved across the North Lawn.

The suspect arrested in the incident was identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best, according to CNN. He reportedly had previous encounters with the Secret Service, one law enforcement source said, including an incident in June 2025 in which he blocked an entry lane at the White House.

After claiming he was “God,” he was detained by the Secret Service and committed to the Psychiatric Institute of Washington for mental evaluation, per the source.

The latest incident comes weeks after a separate shooting disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in April in Washington, when an armed suspect allegedly breached security near the Washington Hilton while President Trump and senior administration officials attended the annual correspondents’ dinner. The suspect was detained and nobody in the building was harmed.

Ivanka Plot Linked to Soleimani Strike: Investigators

The alleged assassination plan against Ivanka Trump reportedly centered on revenge for the January 2020 strike that killed Soleimani, the powerful commander of Iran’s Quds Force.

Several reports stated that Al-Saadi viewed Soleimani as a mentor figure and allegedly discussed targeting Ivanka symbolically because of her close public association with her father during his first administration. Investigators reportedly discovered online threats, maps, and what sources described as a blueprint of Ivanka’s Florida residence.

The Justice Department has not publicly released detailed charging documents specifically describing a finalized assassination attempt against her. Officials have not publicly stated that the suspect reached the operational stage of carrying out an attack inside the United States.

Iran Threats Against Trump Officials Have Persisted for Years

The allegations fit into a much larger pattern of threats against Trump administration figures following Soleimani’s death.

Federal officials have repeatedly warned since 2020 that Iranian-linked operatives and proxy organizations continue seeking retaliation against Trump, former senior military officials, and other individuals associated with the strike.

Those concerns intensified after multiple separate assassination attempts and security scares involving Trump himself during the 2024 presidential campaign and afterward.

The purported Ivanka plot, coupled with the latest White House arrest, is likely to intensify scrutiny surrounding Secret Service procedures and White House perimeter security.

The White House complex already operates under some of the most extensive protective measures in the country, including restricted airspace, layered fencing, heavily armed response teams, surveillance systems, road closures, and rapid lockdown protocols. Yet repeated security incidents over the past several months have raised questions about how close armed individuals continue to get to protected federal spaces.

Earlier this month, for example, Secret Service agents exchanged gunfire with an armed man near the National Mall after authorities said he allegedly approached officers while carrying a concealed firearm.

Online Reaction and Broader Skepticism

Whether it’s Ivanka or past assassination attempts on the president himself, the more such incidents occur, the harder it is for some individuals—especially in the volatile online world of social media—to separate fact from fiction.

The allegations involving Ivanka immediately triggered intense online debate, with many social media users expressing skepticism about the timing and presentation of the reports.

Critics online questioned why multiple dramatic security incidents connected to Trump or his family appeared to emerge in rapid succession alongside escalating tensions involving Iran, where stalled negotiations have not resulted in any type of peace deal and the Strait of Hormuz remains a formidable challenge to U.S. officials.

No evidence currently supports claims that the alleged plot was fabricated or staged. At the same time, officials have publicly released only limited documentation about the accusations against Al-Saadi, leaving significant unanswered questions about the exact scope of the alleged operation and how close investigators believe it came to becoming operational.

Similar theories were projected online within minutes of the arrest following the latest White House incident.

Social media platforms filled with claims that the event was staged, exaggerated, or connected to broader political messaging efforts.

One phrase spread rapidly across X and other platforms: “We deserve better psyops.” The slogan appeared repeatedly in posts mocking the confusion surrounding the gunfire, questioning why major security incidents seem to occur in rapid succession around the White House.

Alternative theories surrounding White House security incidents have become increasingly common in recent years, particularly following multiple assassination attempts and security scares involving Trump. Similar claims circulated after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting in April, notably after many conservative commentators in unison posted on social media that the incident provided further impetus to subsidize and complete Trump’s wanted ballroom project.

Growing Security Concerns

Even with unanswered questions remaining, the allegations underscore how dramatically the threat environment surrounding senior political figures has changed in recent years.

Political violence, assassination threats and extremist activity involving high-profile public officials have increased significantly during the past decade. Security agencies now regularly monitor threats not only against presidents and former presidents, but also against family members, advisers, journalists, judges, and military officials connected to major national security decisions.

The allegations involving Ivanka Trump also highlight the long aftereffects of the Soleimani strike. The 2020 operation reshaped U.S.-Iran relations and continues to influence intelligence, counterterrorism and diplomatic tensions.

For now, investigators have released only limited verified information about the alleged plot. As additional court filings and federal records emerge, officials may provide a clearer picture of whether the accusations involved a preliminary threat, an active operational plan, or something in between.
