When President Trump was elected, it was on the promise that the new administration would stand with us on the right to keep and bear arms. It wasn’t the only promise, to be sure, but on gun rights, the position was firm.

While we’ve gotten a lot from the administration, and it’s more than we’ve gotten at any point I can remember, it’s important to remember that clearing that bar wasn’t exactly a herculean task.

The DOJ has defended several controversial gun control laws in court, for example, but that’s defending federal law. An argument can be made that they’re supposed to. I don’t necessarily agree with it, but it can be made.

When the administration announced it was standing by the Biden-era “frame and receiver” rule, though, that’s a different matter entirely, and a lot of people are…let’s just say they’re bothered by it.

The Firearms Policy Coalition is one, and they’re now blasting the administration over it.

On February 7, 2025, President Trump issued Executive Order 14206, “Protecting Second Amendment Rights.” It sounded promising, but it has since proven to be little more than empty rhetoric.

The following month, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a disappointing decision upholding the ATF’s “Frame or Receiver” rule, a relic of the Biden Administration. Rather than dismissing the appeal or withdrawing the Biden ATF regulation before the Court ruled, the Trump Administration chose to continue defending the gun control rule, allowing the Court to issue a decision that preserved President Biden’s regulatory overreach.

In May 2025, FPC provided the Trump White House, DOJ, and ATF with a complete, print-ready proposed rule to address the Court’s decision following months of dialogue with key officials. But the Administration has since sat on its hands.

Adding insult to injury, the Administration informed us yesterday that “At this time, the [Trump Administration] has decided to maintain the current definition of firearm ‘frame’ and ‘receiver’ contained in that final [Biden Administration] rule.”

Whoever is steering the Trump Administration is aiming the Titanic directly at the iceberg.

To put this latest disappointment in context, FPC has provided the Trump Administration, the White House, DOJ, and ATF, with dozens of lawful actions that could be taken to protect peaceable gun owners and the right to keep and bear arms. Nearly all of those proposals have been ignored.

Instead, in case after case, the Trump Administration has adopted authoritarian, anti-American positions to restrict Second Amendment rights and prosecute those who exercise them. Worse still, the Administration is actively fighting to restrict or eliminate the injunctive relief that FPC and other organizations obtain to protect people from government abuses.

In short, rather than championing gun owners, the Trump Administration is actively working against them.

The Trump Administration needs to clean house. Indeed, draining the swamp should start in the Trump White House—and it should not stop there, because “Protecting Second Amendment Rights” takes more than a few empty words in a throw-away Executive Order.

That last sentence really says it all, doesn’t it? It’s the absolute truth.

We don’t need empty words about protecting our right to keep and bear arms. We need the White House to actually do it.

This isn’t about some loophole that never should have been allowed under current law, but even if it were, the place to change that is through Congress, not unilaterally deciding that some kits that are not guns should suddenly be determined to be firearms simply because it makes people uncomfortable.

Yeah, I know the Supreme Court ruled on this already, but that ruling was asinine.

However, the Supreme Court never said the administration had to define things in such a way, only that they could. That means it was still up to the Trump administration to determine how to approach this, and we see where that landed us.

It’s ridiculous, and when you look at it through the lens of everything else we’ve seen out of the DOJ, for example, or Jeanine Pirro’s antics, and it’s downright schizophrenic.

This is yet another example of that, and we voted for more. We voted for better.

The Trump administration needs to deliver it.

Editor’s Note: The radical left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
