Vortex surprised me. At roughly $200, the Venom Enclosed Emitter delivers significant value, featuring a sealed LED emitter, modern design elements, and broad mounting compatibility, all in a lightweight package. I ran it through a battery of drills and live-fire testing; here’s what I found. Key specs (from testing) Weight: ~1.75 oz Dot options: 3 MOA or 6 MOA Battery: side-mounted (no need to remove sight to change battery) Brightness: 10 daylight settings + 2 NV settings Footprint: DeltaPoint Pro (mates to Glock, S&W CORE with plates; direct-mounts like Shadow Systems and Ruger RXM) Why the enclosed emitter matters I’m…

When Chef Tee Cozy lines up for the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 12, 2025, it’ll be the 11th time the head chef from Cozy Noodles n’ Rice, a Thai restaurant in Wrigleyville, Ill., has run the race. If there’s one thing apparent in the opening scenes of this new short film — the debut in the new PACE SETTERS series by iRunFar in partnership with HOKA — it’s that Chef Tee, who moved to Chicago from Thailand in 1996, loves his city. He also loves running. And he brings that same sense of love to all he does. [Editor’s Note: If you are unable to see the…

The gun control lobby spends almost as much time and energy trying to convince the public that they’re just interested in “reasonable, common sense” measures as it does trying to restrict our right to keep and bear arms. So I wasn’t exactly shocked to see Brady head Kris Brown declare this past week that “Brady is not opposed to the idea of restoring gun rights in principle,” but I was curious to see the fine print attached to that statement. Brown’s comment came in a Substack post devoted to the DOJ’s proposed rule on re-establishing…

This article was originally published by John W. Whitehead and Nisha Whitehead at The Rutherford Institute.  “When they came in the middle of the night, they terrorized the families that were living there. There were children who were without clothing, they were zip tied, taken outside at 3 o’clock in the morning. A senior resident, an American citizen with no warrants, was taken outside and handcuffed for three hours. Doors were blown off their hinges, walls were broken through, immigration agents coming from Black Hawk helicopters … This is America.”—Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson When the government can label anyone or anything an enemy in order…

At 9,200 feet in the Colorado Rockies, the U.S. Army built Camp Hale in 1942 to train a new kind of soldier. The 10th Mountain Division was created to fight in snow, ice, and high-altitude terrain that had hampered armies for centuries. Its formation was the result of a civilian campaign led by Charles Minot “Minnie” Dole, the founder of the National Ski Patrol, who convinced Army leaders that the United States needed a force capable of operating in extreme cold-weather conditions.Over the next two years, thousands of men learned to ski, climb, and survive at Hale, developing tactics and equipment…

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and its partners have filed a petition for en banc review with the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, seeking full court reconsideration of their ongoing lawsuit against New Jersey’s sweeping “sensitive places” gun-carry restrictions. The case, Koons v. Attorney General of New Jersey, challenges the state’s post-Bruen legislation, which designates an extensive network of “sensitive places” where even licensed concealed carriers are prohibited from possessing firearms. Critics argue the law effectively nullifies the right to carry across much of the state. A Law Designed to Defy Bruen Following the Supreme Court’s 2022 New York State…

Is the bike going to explode? I didn’t know, but I was about to find out. In September, I was riding the Santa Cruz Bullit X0 AXS RSV electric mountain bike, and following Kurt Sorge, three-time Red Bull Rampage winner, into the new double-black feature — a 30-foot wall ride — on Obsidius trail at the RED Bike Park. I was curious to find out how the new Santa Cruz Bullit would handle such a large drop — I’d never hit one that big on an e-mountain bike. Zoning in, I followed Sorge’s speed and mimicked his pop onto the…

The Defense Department is following restrictions on buying products for government use that contain a family of hazardous chemicals, but items containing the substances — collectively known as PFAS — may still be available at military exchanges, according to a government watchdog. A review by the Government Accountability Office found that the department had “taken some steps” to implement the ban required by law on buying products containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. But the DoD has not followed through on keeping products containing PFAS off military exchange shelves, according to the published update Wednesday. That shortcoming could potentially expose consumers.…

Standing in a warehouse, I was looking at 2½-million rounds of 5.56 NATO. Unfortunately, none of it was for the commercial market; those stacks of banded wooden crates were headed to U.S. Special Operations. The ammunition company I was visiting requested anonymity. Despite having drums of powder and a quantity of primers, none of it could be used to manufacture commercial ammunition. Those components were U.S. government property.Due to the military’s order, no employees had been laid off or shifts canceled as a result of the shortages resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Like a lot of ammunition brands, however, this…

Russian politicians continue to provoke the ruling classes of the West, saying their rhetoric has continually failed to isolate the former Soviet Union.  Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that nations comprising 85% of the world’s population are refusing to take part in the anti-Russia policies. According to a report by RT, the top diplomat was addressing the World Online Conference on Multipolarity on Saturday, and said that “Washington’s and its satellites’ efforts to reverse history, to force the international community to live by the invented ‘rules-based order’” are proving to be a fiasco, citing the “total failure” of the West…

In just the past few days we’ve seen the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals rule against the ATF’s bump stock ban and a federal judge in Illinois grant an injunction against the state’s prohibition on “assault weapons” and “large capacity” magazines, so it’s odd (to say the least) timing for the Washington Post to run a big article predicated on the idea that blue state attorneys general are racking up win after win in the courts when it comes to defending gun control laws. Despite the Post‘s boasting in its Sunday edition that “Democratic AGs are using the courts to win on…

Well, old-timers, the future is now. Not only have red dots made the bridge from firearms to archery, but now so many have smart optics. Garmin debuted their “Xero” bow sight a few years back already, but they recently released their A1i PRO option. This brings extra features to the already powerful ballistically compensated optic. Garmin Xero optics are an auto-ranging digital laser bow sight that can measure the distance to a target with a push of a button, and then calculate the drop based on user-defined ballistic profiles to display a red dot exactly where one needs to aim…

This year, Federal Ammunition celebrates its 100th anniversary. I recently went on a hunt in west Texas with Federal employees J.J. Reich and Clinton Allen. Between hunts, we discussed the fascinating history behind this once-modest operation. What began as an idle factory in Anoka, Minnesota, is now a worldwide leader in shotshell, handgun, rifle, and rimfire ammo. Enjoy!1. Bankruptcy to Boom(Photo courtesy of Federal)The original Federal plant was built by Louie and Harry Sherman in 1916. Situated on 31 acres of land on the outskirts of Anoka, the plant was geared toward shotshell production. However, the ambitious goals of the…

Disgraced Mayor Lightfoot from Chicago has a message for the Texas Governor. The anti-civil rights politician, the first incumbent Democratic mayor of Chicago to not be reelected to a second term in modern history, has made a real impression on the Windy City. While the citizens of Chicago elected an individual that’s likely to make Lightfoot seem like a law-and-order conservative, that doesn’t mean the current lefty who’s serving as the Mayor of Chicago hasn’t left a lasting impression on the crime-ridden city. In a release, outgoing Mayor Lightfoot shared a letter she penned to Governor Greg Abbott, R-Texas. Chicago…

I love movies. I have since I was a small child and my uncle took me to see Star Wars back in 1978. It was a cultural phenomenon back then, of course, and it ignited so much within me, things I still love today. But I don’t love Hollywood as an entity all that much. See, the problem is that these are the same people who protected Harvey Weinstein and numerous other predators for years, but they routinely seek to lecture the rest of us about whatever. For example, gun control. They’ve pushed it for years to some degree, but…
