A new report has revealed that a live-action adaptation of Persona is in development at Netflix. Franchise creator ATLUS has recently confirmed its next entry in the mainline Persona games and is also preparing for the launch of Persona 4 Revival.

Developed by P-Studios, an ATLUS division, the Persona series started out as a spin-off from the Shin Megami Tensei brand. The first title, Revelations: Persona, was launched in 1996. Since then, the Persona franchise has released four more mainline games and several of its own spin-offs. The long-rumored Persona 6 was also confirmed earlier in June 2026, almost ten years since its predecessor Persona 5, as well as six years since Persona 5 Royal, its enhanced version. Now, it seems the 30-year-old saga is venturing into the live-action industry.

According to Variety, Netflix is working on a live-action TV adaptation of the Persona series. Per the report, Christopher Monfette has been chosen as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the project. Shawn Levy and Robert Artwood of 21 Laps, the studio behind Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things, will also oversee production. Also executive producing are Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson. Finally, SEGA’s own Toru Nakahara, who produced the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action films, will executive produce as well. It remains unknown whether the potential TV adaptation would be based on a particular mainline Persona title or if it would be a new story altogether.

This is not the first time that a potential Persona live-action adaptation has been addressed. In 2022, Toru Nakahara revealed that SEGA was considering making live-action versions of ATLUS IPs such as Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Catherine. Out of the three, Persona is arguably the most well-known series globally, so it is possibly ATLUS’s best bet for a TV show. On the other hand, Netflix did not officially comment on a Persona adaptation for its platform, but the streaming giant is experienced in making shows based on video game IPs. Its most prominent example is the live-action version of The Witcher, followed by critically acclaimed animated shows like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Devil May Cry, and Arcane. Meanwhile, Story Kitchen specializes in video game adaptations and is leading Amazon MGM’s live-action Tomb Raider series.
