Detroit Gun Works’ DGW Mini-R is a modular bolt-action rifle that runs AR calibers, uses AR magazines, and folds into a compact chassis.
Built around a proprietary receiver and barrel system, it lets shooters swap calibers without replacing the entire rifle. The design targets shooters who want bolt-gun precision with AR-style compatibility. Detroit Gun Works says the Mini-R is available now with a $2,500 MSRP.
Modular Bolt-Action Design
The DGW Mini-R centers on a modular platform. Detroit Gun Works machines its own receiver and chambers its own barrels. The system supports AR-style calibers rather than traditional short-action cartridges.
That focus shapes the entire rifle. The goal is a solid bolt-action chassis that feels familiar to AR shooters while delivering bolt-gun consistency.
One-Piece Chassis and Folding Stock
The Mini-R uses a one-piece chassis with an integrated, proprietary folding mechanism. The stock folds to reduce overall length for transport. When folded, it also locks the bolt, which keeps the action secure.
A zero-MOA Picatinny rail is machined directly into the top of the receiver. The forend includes an integrated ARCA rail on the bottom. M-LOK slots run along the sides, with Picatinny on top.
Everything is machined into the chassis rather than bolted on. This adds serious rigidity and reliability to the rail system.
AR and Remington 700 Compatibility
Detroit Gun Works leaned heavily into existing standards. The Mini-R accepts standard AR grips. It also feeds from standard AR magazines, which keeps logistics simple.
The trigger interface follows the Remington 700 pattern. That allows users to choose from a wide range of aftermarket triggers. The rifle shown used a Remington 700-style trigger with a bottom-mounted safety.
Built-In Features and Pricing
A small bubble level is also tucked in behind the Picatinny rail. It gives shooters a quick visual reference without adding external accessories. The layout keeps the rifle clean and streamlined.
Detroit Gun Works says the DGW Mini-R will be available in roughly 2 months. The listed price is $2,500, not including optics or a bipod. The Mini-R aims at shooters who want a compact, modular bolt action that bridges AR compatibility and chassis-rifle features without overcomplicating the system.
