I spend a fair bit of time writing about where gun control fails. It’s pretty easy to find examples of criminals getting guns easily enough, despite all of the laws in various places, all passed with the stated intention of stopping them from getting their hands on firearms. It’s a running thing here.
We also talk about armed citizens using their guns to defend themselves. That’s important, too, because it undermines the anti-gun side’s insistence that the only stories there are involve folks losing loved ones to so-called gun violence.
But there’s a third category we don’t talk about enough, and that’s those who are hurt by these stupid gun control laws.
Amy Swearer took to X to talk about a few of these:

The man, Christopher Gill, was being assaulted by a known gang member, feared for his life, and used his gun in self-defense. He had a carry permit, as noted above, but because this was on the campus of a community college, he was charged for having a firearm in a gun-free zone.

It was a brutal assault, and Gill would likely have been killed if he hadn’t been armed, but because he was standing in a building on the “wrong” patch of dirt, he was charged.
In other words, the only “right” play for Gill would have been to have just let himself be murdered or, at a minimum, grievously injured by a group of thugs.
And then there’s another:

She simply showed the firearm to deter the would-be threat. No one investigating says she did anything wrong by that.
But because her carry permit was from Virginia instead of Maryland–and her attorney points out in the court filing that Maryland was still “may issue” at the time of the incident, and it would have been impossible for her to get a permit at the time–she’s dealing with criminal charges for simply protecting herself from a guy who ran her off the road, then approached her car in a threatening manner.
In other words, the woman, named Eva Marie Gardner, should have just let this guy do whatever he wanted to her, left her gun where it was, and just taken the beating or far worse instead of protecting herself in a non-lethal manner.

See, what anti-gunners never want to talk about is how their laws impact those who are just looking to protect themselves. As criminals ignore these measures, the law-abiding folks are left with nothing but the option of becoming a victim.
Yeah, yeah, I know, “Better to be tried by 12 than carried by six.” I know, and I agree.
On the same token, though, no one should be forced into that position in the first place. Criminals won’t obey the laws. If they did, we wouldn’t have an issue with crime in the first place, even without a single gun control law on the books.
Since they don’t, though, all these laws do is put regular people in bad situations.
