The Attorney General of New Jersey recently launched a civil lawsuit against former JSD Supply owner Jordan Vinroe. This meritless lawsuit stinks of vindictiveness and oozes with extremely sophomoric immaturity.

In 2022 New Jersey enacted a so-called “public nuisance” law pertaining to firearms, firearm-related industry, and even firearm-related marketing. This 1984-esque law has been used to assault members of the industry via fruitless lawsuits. Jordan Vinroe, not a resident of New Jersey, is now being personally sued by Attorney General Jennifer Davenport. This is in the wake of Vinroe filing for bankruptcy with two of his businesses that were already buried by this unconstitutional law.

“Vinroe’s deliberate refusal to implement point-of-sale controls enabled people convicted of serious or dangerous crimes, convicted sex offenders, minors, people subject to domestic violence restraining orders, and others who cannot legally own, possess, or purchase a gun—as well as traffickers of illegal guns—to easily and covertly acquire lethal weapons,” Davenport’s complaint alleges. “Because the products were specifically designed so that anyone with cash, a household drill, and an online video could quickly assemble them into functional firearms, people who were legally barred from acquiring any firearm could readily obtain a Ghost Gun without leaving any paper trail.”

In the filing, the attorney general claims that Vinroe’s dissolution and bankruptcy of businesses that were being sued by the state was a “diversionary tactic” and that he aims to “escape the consequences of his past improper conduct …” In short, because the attorney general can no longer go after Vinroe’s companies, she’s going after him personally. Because he did nothing illegal, she’s saying his conduct was “improper.”

Vinroe is the former owner of JSD Supply. JSD Supply used to be in the business of selling different firearm accessories. Notably, JSD Supply would sell 80 percent lower kits. These popular buy, build, shoot kits, as some companies referred to them, are perfectly legal in more than the majority of U.S. states. New Jersey is one state where the self-manufacture of firearms is prohibited. (Good luck finding an analogue when the gloves come off against these laws.)

Then-Attorney General Matthew Platkin filed his suit against two of Vinroe’s companies in Dec. 2023. “Defendant JSD sells kits, frames, and other parts for making Ghost Guns,” the 2023 filing said. “At the point of sale, JSD does not conduct background checks or require buyers to demonstrate that they are not disqualified from purchasing or possessing a firearm.”

The problem with the 2023 filing—much like this current one—is that no company was/is beholden to conduct any background check for “kits, frames, and other parts” where they were being sold.

In this latest lawsuit, the attorney general’s office dug really deep into everything about Vinroe. Comically, they even cite “Vinroe’s supporters” as if their word and/or reporting can be considered completely authoritative of Vinroe’s motives.

Reading the citations and references in the filing was like bumping into media folks in the media Lounge at SHOT Show. Second Amendment journalist and editor of Shooting News Weekly Dan Zimmerman had work cited. Jason Schaller, aka The Rogue Banshee, a YouTuber, writer and contributor to TheSquareReviews.com (my product review webpage) had an interview cited. One of Black Diamond Josh’s videos was referenced. And Second Amendment journalist John Crump was mentioned 21 times in the filing.

What becomes clear while reading the filing is the contempt that the attorney general has for the Second Amendment is paralleled for her contempt of the First Amendment. Some egos seem to be bruised by all the content that has come out about Vinroe and his many battles over the years. There’s been a lot of egg on a lot of faces at the expense of Vinroe surviving multiple attacks from multiple entities.

There was a lot of, “Look he said that too,” in the complaint, as if the so-called evidence they brought to the table was a slam dunk. We could save the taxpayers some money if Davenport filed a hurt feelings report instead.

Ultimately speaking, what is the attorney general suing for? Money. The state wants to hit Vinroe in the pocketbook. Why? Because “Vinroe’s unreasonable actions and/or omissions were undertaken with actual malice or accompanied by wanton and willful disregard of persons who foreseeably might be harmed by those actions or omissions, within the meaning of the Punitive Damages Act, N.J.S.A. 2A:15-5.12. He is therefore liable for punitive damages.”

Vinroe lawfully conducted business in another state and the State of New Jersey did not like it.

In a video discussing the lawsuit, John Crump said that New Jersey sued Vinroe’s companies into bankruptcy and that people would think that was the end of it. Crump noted that both Eagle Shows and JSD Supply are gone.

“But like vampires in New Jersey — are vampires, and I know they watch the show. I know their AG’s office watches the show. So, yes, I called you a vampire,” Crump asserted. “They want to suck every ounce of blood out of someone, and that’s exactly what they’re doing with Jordan right now.”

Crump compared what the attorney general is doing and has done to extortion, noting that Vinroe hasn’t done anything illegal. Which, if Vinroe was breaking any laws, one would think he’d be in jail right now.

The lawsuit is another unfounded merciless lawsuit. The law that was enacted under the Murphy Administration was their workaround to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. The government of New Jersey is engaging in lawfare against those they find to exercise rights they find disfavorable and use speech that’s offensive to them. So far this work-around has been successful for the Garden State.

The July 15 filing was announced during a press event hosted by the attorney general.

“As the state’s chief law enforcement officer, protecting the public from gun violence is my top priority. Untraceable ghost guns pose a clear and direct threat to public safety—especially because ghost guns are frequently the choice of those who are trying to evade our firearm laws and avoid background checks,” said Attorney General Davenport. “Jordan Vinroe deliberately caters to this market. Our 2023 lawsuit put two of his companies out of business, but that hasn’t stopped him from trying to evade accountability in new ways. Mr. Vinroe does not get to hide from our laws—which is why we’re taking action today to hold him personally accountable for his role in endangering public safety by selling ghost gun products to New Jerseyans.”

Jordan Vinroe was not available for comment.
