Henry Repeating Arms has teamed up with the crew at Big Woods Bucks to create a lever gun purpose-built for one thing: chasing mature whitetails through thick woods where shots happen fast and opportunities disappear even faster.

The new H14 Long Ranger Big Woods Carbine was officially unveiled at Frank’s Gun Shop in Amsterdam, New York, and is now shipping to dealers nationwide.

If you’re the type of hunter who spends more time slipping through cedar swamps and hardwood ridges than sitting over a food plot, this rifle was designed with you in mind.

Built for the Big Woods

The new carbine starts with Henry’s proven Long Ranger platform but trims it down for maneuverability in tight cover.

The rifle features an 18.5-inch blued steel barrel, reducing overall length to just 39 inches while keeping weight under seven pounds. That’s a noticeable difference when you’re carrying a rifle all day through rough terrain.

Instead of a scope-first setup, Henry went with a factory-installed Skinner peep sight paired with a bright fiber-optic front sight. It’s a combination many traditional woods hunters swear by for quick target acquisition in low-light conditions.

The rifle is chambered in .308 Winchester / 7.62 NATO and feeds from a four-round magazine through Henry’s geared lever-action system featuring a six-lug rotating bolt.

A Collaboration with Big Woods Bucks

For hunters unfamiliar with Big Woods Bucks, the group has built a loyal following through its focus on traditional tracking and still-hunting techniques in the vast forests of the Northeast.

The collaboration isn’t just branding slapped on a rifle.

The American walnut stock features the Big Woods Bucks logo engraved and highlighted with the group’s signature green plaid pattern, giving the rifle a distinctive look while acknowledging its roots.

Master Maine Guide and renowned deer tracker Hal Blood believes the setup checks all the right boxes.

“The Long Ranger Big Woods Carbine is the perfect choice for lever-action hunting in the Big Woods,” Blood said. “The short, light, smooth action topped with a Skinner peep sight is the perfect combination.”

Final Thoughts

While the hunting industry continues chasing long-range trends, the Long Ranger Big Woods Carbine is unapologetically focused on close-range deer hunting in thick cover.

It’s short, light, quick to shoulder, and chambered in a cartridge that has put countless whitetails on the ground.

For hunters who still believe the best deer hunting happens inside 100 yards with leaves crunching underfoot, Henry may have just built your next rifle. Learn more HERE.
