There are some people who earn money defending gun rights. They work for gun rights organizations or work with pro-gun media. Most folks who support the right to keep and bear arms don’t get anything from it other than the satisfaction of knowing they’re fighting the good fight.

But what if there was a way to get a little cash for doing so?

It seems Elon Musk is willing to pony up a bit of money to make that into a reality for some.

Elon Musk’s political orientation with the larger American right has only extended further in the direction of greater consolidation over the past few months. He even took centre stage at the recent Trump Rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. This is where Trump was shot at in an assassination attempt that was carried out against the former US President.

Musk, while speaking at the rally, spoke about registering for the voting cycle. Now, in another post, Musk has taken it to the social media profile that he owns to pander to another major rightwing issue/talking point, gun rights.

The original post, that Musk quoted said, “Elon’s America PAC is offering $47 for EACH registered voter you refer in a swing state that signs this petition.

The way this one works is by using the email address or cell phone of the person who referred the individual to sign, which I assume will then have a follow-up email.

Some may ask how this is legal, but it’s pretty simple, really. Musk is offering money for referrals. The person who signs gets nothing from him and it’s not about who votes for what. It’s about signing a petition.

So here’s your shot to make a few bucks by referring your swing-state living friends to sign away.

But let’s also not get our hopes up too much.

Yes, Musk says he’s funding this and yes, it’s about swing-state voters. However, the fact that money is, in fact, involved means that some will dismiss the signatures out of hand. Others will likely argue that petitions are largely meaningless if you can’t verify that the people in question even exist.

My own take is that ultimately, if it gets people fighting for our First and Second Amendment rights, I don’t care about what the naysayers think on the matter.

I’d say it would then be worth every penny, but it’s not my money so I really don’t feel right saying so. However, I suspect Musk feels the same way, and the moment we start fighting back over our rights is the day they start to lose. Right now, they’re gaining ground because they don’t have to fight. The media pushes the narrative and people swallow it. Once that changes, a lot of folks will see the other side and understand where we’re heading.

At that point, things change and I could consider Musk’s spending on this to be a huge value in the grand scheme of things.

Or would if it were my money.
