Chiappa Firearms is kicking off 2026 with a major expansion to its flagship revolver line: a brand-new L-Frame Rhino chambered in .44 Remington Magnum.
The company’s iconic low-bore revolver design has always been known for taming snappy cartridges. But this marks the first time Chiappa has adapted its updated L-Frame architecture specifically for a full-power magnum.
The new .44 Magnum 60DS series will launch in three finishes: Black, White Nickel, and Gold PVD. All will share the same internals and performance profile.
Chiappa describes the extension of the Rhino platform as a way to bring its mechanical recoil advantages to a larger, purpose-built revolver without alienating everyday shooters or collectors.
At the heart of the design is the Rhino’s signature bottom-cylinder firing geometry, which channels recoil in line with the shooter’s arm rather than up and away. In a cartridge like .44 Magnum, that geometry isn’t just a novelty. It’s a functional benefit.
By reducing muzzle rise and straightening the recoil impulse, the 60DS L-Frame is meant to give shooters more control over a notoriously powerful round.
Chiappa’s enlarged L-Frame incorporates revised ergonomics to take advantage of that design.
Twin finger stops and a reshaped grip interface encourage consistent hand placement and leverage, helping shooters manage recoil in both double- and single-action strings.
The revolver keeps the platform’s familiar weight-to-strength balance by pairing a 7075-T6 aluminum frame with a steel barrel and breech shield, keeping the gun stout enough for magnum duty without becoming unwieldy.
