Brigadier General Maura M. Hennigan will relinquish command of 2nd Marine Logistics Group aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune this June after nearly two years at the helm, leaving behind a formation that has pushed the boundaries of logistics innovation and human performance while strengthening joint and allied partnerships.

Hennigan assumed command of 2nd MLG in July 2024. During her tenure, the group delivered measurable gains in equipment readiness, command climate, and the integration of emerging technologies that directly support II Marine Expeditionary Force operations.

Innovation Campus Breakthroughs

One of the most visible markers of her leadership is the continued maturation of the II MEF Innovation Campus. Marines there earned the first Education and Workforce Development Award presented to any Marine Logistics Group by America Makes, recognizing their work in advanced manufacturing and 3D printing solutions that reduce equipment downtime in the field.

The campus, which Marines have used to develop NDAA-compliant drones and on-demand parts, has become a model for how logistics units can accelerate capability delivery. Earlier reporting detailed how the facility helps close supply chain gaps during distributed operations.

Human Performance Center

Hennigan also oversaw the full stand-up and expansion of the 2nd MLG Human Performance Center on Camp Lejeune. The facility integrates physical, mental, spiritual, and social fitness resources under one roof, giving units a single point of access for training that builds resilience before deployment. Leaders across the group credit the center with supporting higher levels of individual and team readiness in austere environments.

Leading Joint Logistics in Norway

In February 2026, Hennigan took command of the Combined Joint Logistics Support Group during Exercise Cold Response 26, marking the first fully integrated U.S.-Norwegian logistics headquarters. The role placed 2nd MLG Marines at the center of NATO’s Arctic deterrence efforts and validated rapid deployment concepts that will inform future II MEF operations in northern latitudes.

Command Climate and Readiness Gains

Throughout her time in command, 2nd MLG recorded strong results on command climate surveys and achieved outstanding marks during the Commanding General’s Readiness Inspection. Those outcomes reflect deliberate efforts to improve equipment maintenance cycles and invest in the people who keep the formation running.

One senior leader who worked closely with her command described Hennigan as “top notch” and said her focus on both innovation and taking care of Marines has produced lasting dividends across the group.

Looking Ahead

The change of command is scheduled for June at Camp Lejeune. BGen Laura Edwards, a combat engineer officer with prior command experience at Combat Logistics Regiment 27 and multiple deployments in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, is slated to assume command. The transition ensures continuity as 2nd MLG continues to support II MEF’s global commitments.

Hennigan’s time at 2nd MLG reinforced a simple truth: logistics innovation and human performance are not separate lines of effort, but rather they are the foundation that keeps Marines ready when it matters most.
