Montana Knife Company drops its new Trail Goat tonight, and anyone who has tried to snag an MKC knife before already knows the drill.
The Trail Goat is the smallest knife in MKC’s tactical lineup. It’s a compact, full-tang MagnaCut blade made for concealed carry, trail use, work, and those charming little “well, this could go sideways” moments.
It weighs just 2.09 ounces, comes with a custom Kydex sheath and UltiClip, and can ride in a waistband, pocket, pack strap, or wherever else you can tuck a small fixed blade without making it everyone’s business.
The drop goes live tonight at 7 p.m. MDT. MKC drops tend to sell out fast, so plan accordingly.

The Trail Goat measures 6.5 inches overall with a 2.875-inch blade, which puts it firmly in compact fixed-blade territory. At 2.09 ounces, the whole package is built around low-profile carry instead of bulk.
The blade uses MagnaCut stainless steel and full-tang construction. MKC pairs that steel with a Cerakote finish, which gives the knife a low-glare exterior and added surface protection. Colors include Black/Black, Black/Darkcam, Coyote/Multicam, and Coyote/Olive.
The modified Wharncliffe blade has a dagger-like centerline and a single cutting edge. That gives the Trail Goat a tactical profile while keeping it legal in more places than a double-edged blade. The dropped tip and straight cutting edge also keep it useful for everyday cutting tasks, trail chores, and general utility, you know… like cutting open boxes (which is what I’ll use it for).

MKC wraps the handle in 5.5 feet of 550 paracord. That keeps weight down, adds texture, and gives users emergency cordage if they need to strip it off. The blade profile also includes a thumb ramp and finger choil, which add control points without extra handle scales or hardware.
Like almost all MKC tactical knives, the Trail Goat comes with a custom-molded Kydex sheath and UltiClip. The carry system supports vertical, horizontal, inside-the-waistband, pocket, and pack carry. It also includes an adjustable retention screw, so users can tune how firmly the sheath holds the knife.
The Trail Goat is covered under MKC’s Generations Promise, which includes sharpening, cleaning, repair, reshaping when needed, and paracord rewrapping.
How to Get Your Hands on One

The MKC Trail Goat drops tonight, Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m. MDT. The first batch is limited and includes an engraved R&D logo. So, if you want one, get over to the MKC website before the drop, choose your colorway, and be ready when it goes live. This probably isn’t the night to circle back later, unless your plan is to admire the sold-out page.
