Hunting season will be here before you know it, which means it’s time for preseason scouting. Fortunately for hunters, TACTACAM just dropped its newest trail cameras, the TACTACAM REVEAL 4.0 and TACTACAM REVEAL Pro 4.0. If heading out to the farm to set up tree stands or hiking into the mountains in search of wallows is on your to-do list for July and August, these are some cameras you should have your eyes on.

I had the opportunity to deploy some of them this June while prepping a deer lease in Illinois. Since I have yet to do any long-term testing, this isn’t a full review, but rather a quick look at what the brand claims will make these the best trail cameras to date.

The Biggest Upgrades With the TACTACAM REVEAL 4.0 and Pro 4.0

In my review of the TACTACAM REVEAL ULTRA, I stated that it didn’t have as strong a battery life as other cameras. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it wasn’t great.

Well, TACTACAM addressed that and claims the TACTACAM REVEAL Pro 4.0 ($160) and REVEAL 4.0 ($130) have not only the best battery life of any REVEAL camera ever (by double the amount), but also of any trail camera ever. That’s a bold claim, but certainly one of the most important aspects of trail cameras. When others fail, these cameras promise to keep clicking away.

As per usual, TACTACAM also claims these new trail cameras boast the best image quality to date. I’m not sure how they could get any better than previous models, or how important that is from a functional hunting standpoint, but the few shots I’ve seen out of them are very crisp.

The entire camera has been redesigned as well. The battery packs don’t pop out of the bottom like they used to. With these trail cameras, the entire bottom half of the camera is the battery, and it slides on and off just like the battery on a power drill. Because of that, the door, screen, and controls have been moved to the side of the camera.

The main differences between the cameras are that the Pro 4.0 allows you to toggle between Low-Glow and No-Glow IR Flash; it has dual lenses and a 2″ LCD screen, while the 4.0 does not.

And, There Are Some Cool New Accessories

With this launch, TACTACAM is also releasing some new accessories. First are the R5 and R10 rechargeable battery packs, which retail for $60 and $100, respectively. The difference is that the R10 has twice the capacity and claims to be the equivalent of 2,000 AA batteries in a compact package.

But the accessory I’m most excited about is the REVEAL Wind Sensor. You place it near your camera, connect it wirelessly, and it sends real-time wind data to your phone at your exact stand location.

There’s also a REVEAL Pro 4.0 Solar package that includes a Pro 4.0 camera, an R5 battery, and a solar panel for $199. If you purchased the camera and power bundle separately, it would cost $270, so the bundle is a great way to save some cash on power.

Are the TACTACAM REVEAL 4.0 and Pro 4.0 Worth It? We Have Them in the Field Now to Find Out

So, the question is, are the new cameras worth it? It’s too early to tell. I can say that so far, I’ve had positive experiences deploying the cameras, and the prices are good.

I certainly like the claims about better battery life, but I haven’t had the cameras out long enough for me to know if they’re true. As I said, I currently have REVEAL Pro 4.0s and REVEAL 4.0s deployed in Illinois and will be deploying more in Tennessee this week. After extended use, I’ll do a full review of the battery life, overall performance, and accessories.
