As a knife collector and nerd, I own somewhere around 100 pocket knives. Yeah, it’s a bit of a problem. But that also means there aren’t many designs I haven’t personally seen before. Well, color me surprised, because a relatively unknown brand just hit me with a totally new concept.
Meet “GhostClip,” a clever design by Miami-based upstart PEAK SPEC. The wild design element is a pocket clip that nests into the knife handle when not in use. I won’t say it’s the first time this has been done — because frankly, it’s a big world out there — but it’s the first I’ve seen.
Why does this matter? Because when using a knife regularly, the pocket clip can be both uncomfortable on the hand and damaging to other items it contacts. It’s a small detail, but an uncomfortable pocket clip has ruined the performance of many otherwise excellent pocket knives.
GhostClip essentially removes the pocket clip from the handle while in use. The clip pops out of the handle when needed for in-pocket carry. Here’s how it works.

GhostClip: A Knife With Nesting Pocket Clip
The GhostClip is a relatively benign pocket knife design if you look past the retractable pocket clip. It comes in either D2 or M390 steel. Both have a 2.9-inch modified sheepsfoot blade, liner lock, and G10 handle. It’s a popular flipper opening style and looks like it should function well as an EDC knife.
It also has a small key ring extension, which can be used as a pry tool or flat screwdriver.
But the intrigue comes from the retractable pocket clip. While I haven’t handled the knife, a video from the brand’s launch page shows it deploying with one hand. Press a button, and the clip pops out, ready to attach in a pocket. When using the knife, press the clip into the handle and it lies flush.
The pocket clip appears to only be available in right-hand carry versions. So lefties will need to flip the knife around in deployment or carry on their nondominant side.
Again, I can’t for certain say this is the first time a brand has done a retractable pocket clip. But it’s the first I’ve seen, and a quick Google search doesn’t turn up anything similar.
Will it disrupt the pocket knife world? I somewhat doubt it, mostly because the majority of pocket clips just don’t bother me that much. But still, it’s a very cool idea.
Yes, it adds another possible failure point and additional moving parts. But hey, a lot of pocket clips already get loose over time and screws tend to fall out. This might be a great design.
I haven’t seen it in person yet. But it’s a rad little pocket knife that looks great. And the modified sheepsfoot is a wonderful and slightly uncommon blade shape.
