Peace Vans announced its VW ID. Buzz electric campervan conversion back in the fall of 2024, but it wasn’t until January 2026 that it brought its most-requested feature to market. The electric VW van pop-top has arrived!

“A pop top is one of the most iconic road trip and camping features,” says Harley Sitner, CEO of Peace Vans. “When VW confirmed the ID. Buzz was coming to the U.S., we knew we had to produce this. As the largest vintage VW Camper restoration and repair shop in the U.S., the VW camper van and pop tops are such a deep part of our DNA, one could say the draw to build this product was almost beyond our control.”

Peace Vans

Peace Vans has created over 50 VW ID. Buzz campers already, but not until just recently did any of them get a pop-top. The new top is made in Colorado by composite and pop-top expert C.F. Maier, and installed in Seattle at Peace Vans.

The pop-top adds just under 300 pounds to the ID. Buzz. For vans with the glass roof, only a small amount of trimming needs to be done to the roof once the glass is removed to install the pop-top. For metal roof vans, just the non-structural metal is cut out to make room for the new top.

The ID. Buzz pop-top shares many design elements with Peace Vans’ Mercedes Metris van pop-top. Over 1,000 of those tops are already on the market. Peace Vans is also well respected in the vintage VW world, offering support, service, sales, and rentals of a wide range of campervan products.

More Camper in the Van

Peace Vans jumped on the ID. Buzz bandwagon quickly, as they saw the potential and already had the passion for VW vans.

The first product on offer for the van is the least intrusive on the vehicle. It’s a rear kitchen box and sleeper that replaces the third row of the van. It offers a stove, fridge, counter space, drawers, water system, sink, a speaker, and even wireless charging ports. This box setup can also be paired with a sleeper platform.

A full camper conversion is also an option from Peace Vans. This setup uses the entire rear of the van, behind the front seats. It offers storage, a full kitchen, a bed, and convertible seating.

Peace Vans Electric Van Pop-Top: Pricing & Availability

The price of just the pop-top is $15,995. A full camper conversion is $24,995. Of course, you must also supply a VW ID. Buzz to be converted, and that will likely cost you north of $60K. The Kitchen Box retails for $7,995, and the Kitchen Box + Sleeper is $9,995.

The Current wait time for a pop-top install on an ID. Buzz is 2 to 3 months. The install takes 3 days at Peace Van’s HQ in Seattle, but the company plans to open other installation locations around the country late this year.

To check out this new pop-top camper van option for yourself, Peace Vans offers a “Fly-Try-Buy” program. You fly into Seattle, and the company sorts you out for a night or two at one of its managed campsites (each with a Level 2 charger) in the van. If a purchase commitment is made, you get up to a $1,000 credit toward your purchase.

Elephant in the Room

While the VW ID. Buzz isn’t being brought to the U.S. market in 2026, Peace Vans isn’t worried about the availability of the vans for its conversions.

“Volkswagen’s decision to skip importing the Model Year 2026 ID. Buzz made perfect sense to us and has little impact on our business. With over 6,000 2025 ID. Buzz units on the road, that translates into a lot of people clamoring for our innovative solutions to turn their ID. Buzz into a camper van. There’s a lot of ‘movement’ right now in the global macro economy and all global entities are rebalancing and recalibrating their multi-year plans around this dynamic environment — Volkswagen is no exception to this.

“We are excited to see the MY27 ID. Buzz roll out this fall and are excited to continue the long tradition of small, nimble camper vans that reach back in history to one of the most iconic experiences ever — a VW Camper,” said Sitner.
