Bradford Washburn, one of climbing’s most iconic photographers and cartographers, lost something in 1937. During an expedition to summit Mount Lucania in the Yukon, Washburn’s team was caught in a fierce and unexpected blizzard. The team had to hastily pack up camp, load into their plane, and flee before the weather pinned them down in a dangerous situation.
In the pandemonium, Washburn’s large-format aerial camera and gear, which held weeks’ worth of unprocessed photos, were left behind. The items were never recovered, and no one ever went looking for them.
Until 8 decades later, when professional skier Griffin Post caught wind of the story. He put together a team of skiers, scientists, and explorers to set out, following a glacial map, in search of the lost legend. Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned treasure hunt story?
Directed by Todd Jones, The Lost Cache will release sometime in 2026. The trailer can be viewed above.
Runtime: 2:28 minutes
