About the Brand
KC HiLiTES, Inc. was founded in 1970. Unimpressed with halogen lights of the day, the founders mounted aircraft landing lights to vehicles for improved visibility in the desert at night. The lights proved bright enough but didn’t hold up to the rigors of off-roading. They found solutions to this problem and began selling packages of lights, wiring harnesses, and mounts to other off-road enthusiasts.
The company’s best-known product, the KC Daylighter, used a patented isolated rubber mount. The lights had protective covers with black-on-yellow text, “KC Daylighter” laid out like a smiley face. They became iconic atop Jeeps, race buggies, and other off-road vehicles.
In the 1990s, KC developed high-intensity discharge (HID) lighting, which it still sells along with LEDs for off-road use.
