During the average political campaign season, Americans are inundated with speeches, promises and often complete falsehoods. In a world in whichpartisan politics dominates the coverage of practically all media outlets, we are slowly being morally desensitized. However, an occasional story escapes the echo chambers and raises concerns by everyone who reads it. As you have read previously from Bearing Arms, the most recent of such stories has garnered attention out of the Commonwealth of Virginia via leaked text messages from Democratic candidate for Virginia Attorney General (AG) Jay Jones.  In keeping with what is becoming the new reality of partisan politics, reactions…

On Wednesday’s Bearing Arms’ Cam & Company, Firearms Policy Coalition founder and president Brandon Combs noted a disturbing trend inside the DOJ. While the Department has taken historic action to defend the right to keep and bear arms against state and local infringements, it’s also defended virtually every federal gun control law that’s currently being challenged, though in some cases that defense is more passive than active.  We have yet another example of this phenomenon in a case called Rush v. United States, which is a challenge to the NFA’s registration and taxation scheme for…

I have a personal story to share of a near-miss incident that almost cost my life and quite possibly the lives of others as well. This happened almost 20 years ago in the Chicagoland area. I was driving my car at around 60 mph on one of the freeways near Chicago, while trying to tune my car stereo to a radio station. For younger readers unfamiliar with FM radio, this is something drivers did in an era before smartphones, streaming music, podcasts, and Apple CarPlay / Android Auto stereos that take voice commands. (To older readers who may find this…

An improved model of Microsoft Corp.’s goggles won’t be deployed to U.S. Army combat troops for at least two years because the company must first demonstrate it has fixed flaws that left soldiers with headaches, nausea and eyestrain, according to the Army. The latest version is slimmer and lighter and is designed “to greatly improve soldier comfort,” Microsoft said in a statement. Software improvements are also intended to result in greater reliability and reduced power demand. Microsoft’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System, or…

By Rob Morse Lies come in many shapes and sizes. Some are simple exaggerations. Some are absurd falsehoods. Unfortunately, we tend to believe a plain, bold-faced lie if it’s expressed with enough emotion. That’s the same kind thing keeps viewers watching and clicking so the press is often more interested in outrage than in the truth. A lie doesn’t become the truth no matter how many times it’s repeated, but the lie may help politicians get re-elected if it’s repeated often enough and believed by enough likely voters. We need to call out every lie we see even if that…

On the heels of the shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, it’s unsurprising to see many states taking steps they believe would prevent such a shooting. Others may be taking steps they were going to take anyway, it just looks like a response to Nashville because of timing. A bill over state-funded gun training for teachers in Indiana could fall into either category, though I don’t really care which. I don’t care because it’s a good idea. Luckily, it seems lawmakers agree with me. Indiana state lawmakers have sent the state’s Republican governor a bill that would create…

Officials say that their desired destination had been across the street. Caccavale, the homeowner, was interviewed afterward. He’d…

Illinois has been going above and beyond as of late to make Second Amendment related news. The National Association for Gun Rights filed a lawsuit last year challenging the city of Naperville’s so-called “assault weapons” ban. That case, Bevis et al v.
