An elderly homeowner in Houston fatally shot an intruder earlier this week who police say lived there previously.
According to CW39, it was around 11 p.m. when the 30-year-old intruder showed up in the Texas neighborhood.
Homeowner Shoots
The intruder, who police are still working to identify, used a shovel to break a window. The intruder “forced himself in the home, striking [the homeowner] multiple times,” according to Lt Horelica from the Houston PD.
“The homeowner inside shot him multiple times,” A video report from KHOU 11 said.
The police arrived and found the intruder in critical condition. They took the intruder to a nearby hospital for treatment. The intruder died while at the hospital.
Sneaky Dealings
Before attacking the home, the intruder roamed the neighborhood. Next door to the shooting, a neighbor saw the same intruder in their backyard.
The neighbor said they confronted the stranger who ran out of sight.
The neighbor called next door to warn the 70-year-old homeowner right before the shovel hit the window.
The homeowner put a curtain over the window where the intruder smashed it in.
Investigation
The investigation is still active. Police have not released charges or identified anyone involved. “I’m not going to call either one of them a suspect or a victim,” Lt Horelica said, according to KHOU 11. They are trying to figure out whether the two individuals knew each other.
There are likely more details the police have gathered and will not release yet. Police did say that the intruder previously lived in the home where he broke the window.
They are looking for homes in the neighborhood to find security footage. Lt Horelica also said they are looking for other witnesses.

Other neighbors told KHOU 11 that several other break-ins have happened recently in that neighborhood.
The neighbors are not surprised that this happened. It makes you wonder how many of them are armed and have firearms to protect their homes.
