Gun Control Groups Don’t Just Blame Guns for Mass Shooting, But It’s Still Stupid

Gun control groups have thoughts on mass shootings. After each one, they blame guns and declare that we need more and more gun control. They want bans of entire categories of firearms and even bans of certain kinds of action for firearms, all because guns are the problem.

We’ve had this discussion time and time again.

So I was a little relieved to find out that they’d filed an amicus brief citing another cause for things like school shootings such as what transpired on Wednesday in Winder, GA.

I shouldn’t have been because it’s just as stupid.

Ensuring minors can access procedures like puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones is a “crucial component” in the fight against firearm violence, gun control groups told the Supreme Court Tuesday.

In an amicus brief filed in United States v. Skrmetti, organizations including Giffords, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Team Enough and March For Our Lives Action urged the Supreme Court to strike down a Tennessee law banning sex change procedures for minors, claiming such laws contribute to a “climate of hostility that puts transgender individuals directly at risk.” The groups also argued that youth who identify as transgender are at a higher risk of committing suicide using a firearm when they cannot access “gender-affirming care,” a euphemism for life-altering medical interventions.

“In the face of the ongoing gun violence crisis gripping our nation, ensuring access to gender affirming care for transgender youth is not merely a matter of medical necessity—it is a crucial component in our fight against the epidemic of gun violence that disproportionately threatens this vulnerable population,” the groups argued.

The correlation between a “surge in violence” and “discriminatory legislation” cannot be ignored, the groups argued.

“By denying access to gender-affirming medical care, SB1 not only inhibits the ability of transgender youth to present as their authentic selves safely in society, but it also perpetuates the dangerous and baseless perception that transgender individuals who seek medical transition pose a threat to society,” the groups argued. “This dual effect—increasing transgender individuals’ visibility as potential targets while also stoking societal fears— creates a perfect storm of increased violence against an already vulnerable population.”

Uhh…how?

Now, I’m not interested in getting into the whole trans thing because, frankly, it’s not what we do here. My personal take is that I don’t care what legal adults do to their own bodies, but I’m not in favor of kids going through such treatments for a variety of reasons.

But I’ve never viewed trans people as some violent threat to society.

What’s more, while trans people do get shot, what we find is that many of them are shot for reasons that have nothing to do with being trans. They’re shot in robberies or self-defense. They’re shot by jealous lovers or personal rivals. They’re mostly shot for the same idiotic reasons non-trans people are shot.

So the fact that they’re trans is irrelevant in the vast majority of the cases I’ve come across.

But the anti-gun groups have jumped into the trans fray, and unsurprisingly, they’re on the same side as your standard-issue Democrat. Shocking, I know.

The truth is that anti-gun groups like to pretend to be non-partisan, but they’re as partisan as it gets. They’ll push literally any leftist agenda item if they can figure out a way to sort of connect it to “gun violence.”

In this case, the claim they’re making is predicated on nonsense that they’re hoping judges are too stupid to see through.
