A Phoenix homeowner shot and killed a man who allegedly tried to break into his home early Sunday morning.
According to Phoenix police, the shooting happened around 7:45 a.m. near 7th and Glendale Avenues. Officers say the suspect attempted to rob the residence but was stopped when the homeowner opened fire. The intruder died at the scene.
Neighbors reported hearing loud bangs and expressed growing concerns over safety in the area.
“I just told my daughter, ‘You know what, I need to put up cameras,’” said one woman who lives nearby to be ABC15 Arizona.
She declined to appear on camera but shared that a burglary happened just a block away from her house recently. Her daughter wants her to buy a gun, but she admitted, “I don’t really want to have one in the house.”
The Phoenix homeowner who fired the shots at the suspected burglar is cooperating fully with investigators. Phoenix PD confirmed that he is not injured and is considered the victim in the case.
No arrests have been made. Police are continuing their investigation.
This incident highlights the importance of the right to self-defense. In an age where violent crime continues to rattle communities, gun owners are stepping up to protect themselves and their loved ones when police simply can’t be everywhere at once.
