Finnish firearms manufacturer Sako have just released a new family of bolt action rifles called Sako 90 which is apparently the successor of the recently-discontinued Sako 85 line of rifles. The Sako 90 series will initially include seven models designed for different types of hunts and user preferences. Let’s take a closer look.

Sako @ TFB:

Sako 90 rifles have a push feed action and three-lug bolts with dual plunger ejectors. The receivers feature a flat bedding interface, broached bolt channels and are machined with either built-in top Picatinny rail or Optilok dovetail sections. The receivers are available in different sizes, optimized for cartridge lengths. The action is fed from double-stack detachable box magazines of 4 or 5-round capacity. The safety locks the trigger, firing pin and bolt handle, however, there is a separate button in front of the safety lever that allows opening the action when the safety is engaged. The trigger shoe position is adjustable and there are five pre-set trigger pull weights that can be selected via the Torx head selector in front of the trigger shoe, without a need to disassemble the rifle. The Sako 90 rifles can also be equipped with set triggers.

The barrel lengths are 510mm (20″), 570mm (22.4″), 600mm (23.6″) or 620mm (24.4″). These new Sako rifles will be chambered in the following cartridges: .22-250 Remington, .243 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08 Remington, .308 Winchester, 6.5 PRC, 7mm Remington Magnum, 28 Nosler, .300 Winchester Magnum, .338 Winchester Magnum, and .375 Holland & Holland Magnum. Sako 90 rifles are also available in a variety of furniture design and material options, from walnut to carbon fiber. Depending on the barrel, chambering and furniture, the overall weight of these rifles varies from 2.6kg (5lbs 11.7oz) to 3.9kg (8lbs 9.6oz).

The lightness of the rifle makes it easy to carry, the wide selection of calibres make it usable for most game animals and the material technology solutions used ensure reliability in any environment. The rigidity and accuracy of the rifle is further improved by adding carbon fibre reinforcements around the receiver and bedding surfaces.

Sako 90 Bavarian

The Sako 90 Bavarian continues the legacy of elegant walnut-stock hunting rifles. The stock geometry pays homage to Central-European tradition of rifle stocks with a hog’s back rear stock shape.

This beautiful stock was first designed for high-seat hunting during which the shooting angle can change quickly from level to downwards. The hog’s back rear stock design offers superior ergonomics for such situations. The Bavarian is always equipped with a set trigger to match the need of the most demanding hunters. The Optilock receiver makes sure you have a clear view through open sights, which are often mounted on the Bavarian. The wide selection of compatible calibres broadens the usage of this beautiful rifle for the elegance-oriented hunter.

Sako 90 Hunter

The Sako 90 Hunter comes with world-class Sako features, including legendary Sako accuracy, smooth bolt operation and perfect balance, making it a valued rifle to both own and shoot.

The design combines a walnut stock with either blued or stainless metal parts. Open sights are available for the blued barrel option. The popular Hunter stock continues to fulfil the needs of many hunters who are looking for a straightforward and elegant walnut stock rifle for versatile hunting. Combined with either a blued or stainless barreled action, stainless steel bolt and the new Sako 90 Optilock interface for optics mounting, the Sako 90 guarantees reliable and safe operation. All this makes the Sako 90 Hunter a truly classic rifle for dedicated hunters.

Sako 90 Varmint

The fluting on the barrel gives a distinct appearance while also allowing heat to dissipate. The rigid and stiff birch-laminate stock with raised Monte Carlo comb and wide-bottom forend enables a perfect shooting posture when using high-magnifying optics. The Sako 90 Varmint truly is the perfect Varmint rifle for the dedicated Hunter.

Built for long-range shooting and hunting, the Sako 90 Varmint offers rigidity and stability for pinpoint accuracy. The free-floating heavy stainless steel barrel guarantees that you stay on target round after round.
