On Saturday morning, April 27, 2024, Knoxville Police Department officers swiftly responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home located in the 4700 block of Santala Drive.

The incident, reported at approximately 7:40 a.m., involved 25-year-old Jamauri Griffin, who was reportedly armed with a gun at his ex-girlfriend’s residence.

The officers arrived on the scene by 7:50 a.m. and made entry into the home, identifying themselves as KPD officers.

Shortly after their announcement, they confronted Griffin, who was armed with a handgun. In a sudden and violent turn of events, Griffin shot a 23-year-old woman who was inside the home.

Reacting to the immediate threat, the officers discharged their weapons, hitting Griffin at least once. They promptly requested medical assistance following the shooting.

Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured woman was quickly transported to UT Medical Center. She sustained a gunshot wound to the face, but fortunately, her injuries were not life-threatening.

The responding officers should be praised for their decisive action and marksmanship under duress, demonstrating a commitment to public safety in a highly volatile situation.
