A violent home invasion ended in a wild shootout and police chase after three armed suspects broke into an apartment early in the morning on January 26, 2025.

According to Fresno police, it all started around 7:20 a.m. when a 9-1-1 caller reported seeing three men, one armed with a shotgun, forcing their way into an apartment at North Backer and Shaw Avenue.

Surveillance video captured the trio approaching the residence before smashing their way inside.

A home invasion in Fresno ended in an officer-involved shooting.

The suspects didn’t waste time. One of them even drove their SUV onto the courtyard, backed it up to the front door, and helped load a safe into the vehicle. As they fled the scene with the stolen safe, Fresno officers were already closing in.

Officer #1 located the SUV stopped on a walkway with two suspects outside the vehicle. After giving multiple commands to get on the ground—commands the suspects ignored—the men jumped back into the SUV.

The driver, later identified as 37-year-old Amicho Mancia, backed the SUV into a building before flooring it toward Officer #1. Fearing for his life, the officer opened fire.

The suspects fled the apartment complex, sparking a police pursuit. Officer #3 intentionally collided with the SUV to bring it to a halt. He then saw Mancia trying to pull a rifle from the vehicle and fired multiple rounds through the windshield of his patrol car.

Mancia ditched the SUV and ran toward a nearby campus, while Officer #2 fired shots believing Mancia was still armed.

A police K9 was deployed and successfully apprehended Mancia, who was wearing body armor but had no bullet impacts. Meanwhile, Officer #3 discovered an AR-15 style rifle inside the SUV and secured it.

The passenger, 43-year-old Antwoine Francisco Mancia, was taken into custody without major injury but complained of pain.

Both men were transported to the hospital. Amicho Mancia was treated for a gunshot wound and later booked into jail on charges of felony assault on an officer, robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Antwoine Mancia was booked for robbery, carrying a concealed firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing ammunition illegally.

Investigators later identified the third suspect, 28-year-old Aaron Guery, and arrested him on January 29 for home invasion robbery.

The suspects left a trail of evidence behind. The stolen safe fell out of the SUV during the escape, and police recovered the shotgun and bag used during the break-in from the victim’s apartment.

This Fresno home invasion shooting shows the serious dangers police face when confronting armed criminals willing to use force. Thanks to quick action and teamwork, Fresno officers were able to stop the threat without loss of innocent life.
