This year, I had the opportunity to attend SIG Sauer’s Global Defence Range Day and got a first look at some of their latest products, including the new duty light, the FOXTROT 4R. With an impressive spec sheet and a price point around $180, this light is bound to turn heads.

Let’s get straight to the point: this light is bright. SIG claims 1,350 lumens and 33,000 candela, which translates to a tight beam capable of illuminating targets at a distance while still providing enough flood for close-range use.

The FOXTROT 4R uses the same head as the FOXTROT-EDC light, which I’ve personally used to light up areas beyond 100 yards, even in heavy ambient backlighting.

The light runs on a single rechargeable 18350 battery, which delivers about an hour of runtime. Conveniently, the FOXTROT 4R comes with two batteries, allowing you to quickly swap a fresh one in while charging the other.

With front-loading battery access, you can easily replace a battery without removing the light from your firearm—a nice touch for uninterrupted use.

Holster compatibility should also be seamless. The FOXTROT 4R has a similar footprint to Modlite’s popular pistol light, meaning there’s already a solid variety of holsters that will work with it right out of the gate.

An interesting feature of the FOXTROT 4R is its highly configurable switches. The physical switches can be swapped between four styles, allowing you to customize their height and shape.

Beyond that, the switches are programmable to fit your preferences. For example, you can set an upward press for constant-on and a downward press for momentary use.

At the range, the switches are intuitive and easy to activate with either your index finger or thumb, adding to the light’s overall usability.

Overall, the FOXTROT 4R seems to deliver high-end performance comparable to other premium pistol lights, but at a more wallet-friendly price.

While it’s not available just yet, SIG expects the first shipments to hit shelves in April. In the meantime, it’s worth keeping an eye on their website for updates.
