Far-Left Prosecutors Endorse Harris and Embrace Her Gun Control Agenda

With Kamala Harris running as far as possible away from many of her previously-held positions in an attempt to present a more moderate face to the electorate, I’m pretty sure her campaign would have been happy if soft-on-crime prosecutors like Los Angeles County D.A. George Gascon and Cook County, Illinois State’s Attorney Kim Foxx had kept their mouths shut instead of offering their full-throated endorsement, but like it or not Harris now has the backing of some of the most controversial and divisive prosecutors in the country. As Fox News reports, Gascon and Foxx are among several dozen prosecutors who endorsed Harris on Wednesday, in large part because of her support for gun control measures.

“Donald Trump would make us all less safe. As president, he oversaw the largest murder spike in history, tried to cut funding for law enforcement, and boasted that he ‘did nothing’ on gun violence. If reelected, he would threaten to roll back common sense gun safety laws and lead the charge to defund federal law enforcement.”

“The choice in this election is clear. While Vice President Harris has spent her career holding perpetrators accountable, Trump has been convicted of fraud and found liable for sexual abuse. Vice President Harris will keep our communities safe, while Donald Trump will put us in danger. Ultimately, America must choose between a prosecutor who cares about public safety and a convicted felon who only cares about himself. We choose the prosecutor,” the statement continued.

While the prosecutors claim that Trump wants to defund federal law enforcement, it was Gascon who said in 2020 that we need to “move funding away from public safety agencies” and towards public health and social services. Foxx has largely avoided using the phrase “defund the police”, but she’s dropped a significant number of felony cases during her time as Cook County’s chief prosecutor, including the case against actor Jussie Smollett, who was later convicted on five felony counts of disorderly conduct after a special prosecutor took charge of the case.

Gascon, Foxx, and the other progressive prosecutors endorsing Harris claimed that the Democratic candidate has spent her career holding perpetrators accountable, while leaving out Harris’s extensive history of trying to turn lawful gun owners into criminals. In 2005, she backed San Francisco’s Prop H campaign, which would have banned the possession of handguns in the city and forced existing owners to turn their pistols over to law enforcement. Two years later, while backing a gun storage ordinance proposed by San Francisco lawmakers, Harris said “just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn’t mean that we’re not going to walk into that home and check to see if you’re being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs.”

And while the far-left prosecutors allege that Trump would roll back “common sense gun safety laws”, the truth is that Foxx and Gascon have both chosen to selectively enforce some of the gun control measures that are already in place in California and Illinois. Earlier this year, for instance, Foxx said her office would not prosecute individuals caught illegally possessing a gun in Cook County if their arrest stemmed from a minor traffic stop. But while Foxx has cut criminal defendants a break, she’s refused to back real common sense reforms to Illinois’s gun laws, including repeal of the state’s Firearm Owner ID card mandate, and has worked to defend Cook County’s ban on so-called assault weapons and large capacity magazines.

Foxx’s endorsement comes just days after her office declined to pursue any charges against a “dangerous” Colombian migrant who was arrested for murder last week in Chicago.

A Chicago Police Department source shared with Fox News the migrant’s illegally-acquired gun went off in an apartment building, killing a “beautiful and promising” 17-year-old girl.

The source added that when 19-year-old Juan David Ramirez-Olivo was arrested for murder last week and questioned by CPD, he lied about being from Venezuela. Ramirez-Olivo is a Colombian national.

The Chicago Police pushed for Olivo to be charged with involuntary manslaughter; Foxx’s office went to bond court last Friday afternoon and repealed the charges, citing “insufficient evidence” to Fox News.

If Harris is elected, Gascon and Foxx could very well find themselves elevated to positions of authority in the DOJ, and they’d bring their soft-on-criminals/tough-on-lawful-gun-owners philosophy with them. Harris’s longstanding animosity towards the right to keep and bear arms is dangerous enough, but the addition of far-left prosecutors to a Harris administration is a recipe for disaster when it comes to public safety.
