It was just a couple of days ago when Cam took issue with a DOJ attorney claiming that suppressors weren’t “arms” and thus weren’t covered by the Second Amendment.

The truth was that we expected better out of the Trump administration. A lot of us were upset, and rightly so.

Sure, Attorney General Pam Bondi has made some better moves otherwise, but it was still a slap in the face.

And, it’s also being addressed.

After GOA & @gunfoundation broke the news that a Biden-era holdover acting U.S. Attorney argued that suppressors were NOT arms & were NOT protected by the Second Amendment, @thejusticedept is requesting 30 days to reconsider its anti-gun brief.

Now, this is just asking for a 30-day delay while the DOJ “reconsiders” its position, but let’s be real about what that means.

If the intention was to power through the appeal with the claim that suppressors aren’t part of the Second Amendment, it wouldn’t ask for a 30-day delay in the first place.

The only reason to ask for any such delay is with the intention of potentially backing off entirely from that idiotic argument. I’m not saying they’re going to suddenly say that suppressors shouldn’t be NFA items, mind you, but that possibility is at least on the table.

One of the first things the Trump administration needs to do if they’re serious about gun rights is to simply take a contrary position on gun control to what we’ve seen from pretty much every previous administration. Rather than continuing to fight these cases, DOJ attorneys need to make the argument that yes, these laws infringe on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.

Abolishing the ATF would be no good if the agency left with those responsibilities would still have the ability to shaft the American citizens in just the same way.

The DOJ, under Bondi, has the chance to dismantle gun control in ways that we never could before, and it doesn’t involve Congress in any way, shape, or form. It would take decades to get back to where things stand now, and that’s assuming there was any political will to actually do it, which I’m doubtful of.

By “reconsidering” its position, the DOJ has a chance to really make a pro-gun move that would potentially set the anti-gunners back a century on at least one front.

But on the same token, they could also take a less substantial stand that would minimize any actual benefit to the gun rights community. There’s a lot of space between “suppressors aren’t arms and therefore aren’t covered under the Second Amendment” and “yes, suppressors should be shipped directly to your house without any restrictions at all.”

There shouldn’t be, of course, but let’s be realistic here.

Still, this is a promising sign, and something we’ve long been waiting for from the Department of Justice. We’re finally seeing gun rights step into the limelight and Bondi seems to be starting to deliver what we expected from the Trump administration from the start. If she keeps this momentum up, we’ll finally have our rights restored to where they should be in short order.

Now, about those Epstein files…
