Out of the Box

The M4E1 Pro arrives well-packaged and includes everything you need to hit the range except ammo. In the box, you’ll find a 30-round magazine, gun lock, stickers, and an owner’s manual. The rifle itself has an impressive look with its Kodiak Brown Anodized finish on both the M4E1 Pro lower receiver and M4E1 threaded upper receiver. It gives the rifle a unique, rugged aesthetic while providing extra corrosion resistance.

M4E1 Pro Lower Receiver & Ambidextrous Controls

The M4E1 Pro lower receiver is built with Aero Precision’s enhanced features, making it stand out from standard mil-spec lowers. The integrated trigger guard provides extra clearance for gloved hands, and the flared magwell speeds up reloads.

One of the biggest benefits of the PRO model is the fully ambidextrous controls. The rifle includes a PRO Ambidextrous Safety, as well as a BREACH Ambidextrous Charging Handle, making manipulations easy from either side. The EZ Install takedown and pivot pins make maintenance and disassembly easier as well. Furniture

The rifle is equipped with Magpul MOE furniture, including the MOE grip and MOE SL stock, both of which provide a solid and comfortable interface. I have run Magpul furniture for years, but I am a fan of their SL stock as it provides a great cheek weld. Also, Aero Precision includes their Enhanced Buffer Tube with an H buffer, helping smooth out the recoil impulse.

MOD 4 Handguard

Equipped on M4E1 Pro is also Aero’s MOD 4 handguard. It features a 7-sided M-LOK interface and four steel QD sling sockets. The result is a solid, no-compromise handguard that works exceptionally well whether you’re mounting optics, grips, lights, or lasers.

The MOD 4 has been engineered to minimize optical deflection. The handguard is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and is developed with an emphasis on stiffness, ensuring minimal flex or movement. The steel barrel nut attachment is a key feature that significantly improves zero retention, especially when using an infrared laser aiming device. I put this to the test and found that the MOD 4 handguard was one of the best-performing rails I’ve evaluated when it comes to holding a laser’s zero. Barrel on the M4E1 Pro

At the heart of the M4E1 Pro is a 16-inch cold hammer forged (CHF) barrel. CHF barrels are known for their increased durability and longevity, making them a great choice for shooters who plan to run their rifles hard. The barrel features a government profile, which balances strength and weight, and is chrome-lined for additional resistance to wear and corrosion.

Here’s a quick rundown of the barrel’s specs:

The mid-length gas system ensures smooth cycling and helps reduce recoil impulse, which becomes especially noticeable during rapid-fire strings.

Trigger Performance

This rifle features an ALG QMS single stage trigger. While better than mil-spec, it leaves room for improvement. It has no take-up, but the wall feels mushy and has noticeable creep before breaking at around 4.5 to 5.0 lbs. The reset, however, is short and predictable, allowing for fast follow-up shots. While the trigger is certainly usable, for a rifle in this price point, I would have liked to see a nicer trigger included. Upgrading to a cleaner-breaking aftermarket trigger would likely tighten groups and improve overall precision.

M4E1 Pro Accuracy & Precision Testing

Throughout this review, I was able to put a few hundred rounds through this rifle. Most of the ammunition used was 55gr Winchester supplied by Ammuntiontogo.com. Aiming to see how precise this rifle was, I set up paper targets at 100 yards, grabbed an assortment of ammunition, and started shooting groups. While some people just shoot 3-round groups and call it a day, I feel like 5-round groups give a better representation of how a semi-auto rifle performs. 

The best performer was the Hornady 62gr FMJ, which achieved a 0.69 MOA group. The Hornady 55gr V-MAX and 75gr BTHP also shot well, landing in the 1.5-2 MOA range. The Winchester 55gr FMJ, as expected, was the least precise, coming in at 4.57 MOA. See below for a table and image detailing my results:

Hunting & Performance

The M4E1 Pro shoots smoothly and allows for fast follow-up shots. While testing, I was able to maintain 7 rounds per second on a steel silhouette at 30 yards while braced against a barricade. The rifle is well-balanced, and the mid-length gas system keeps recoil impulse soft and manageable. For those who want to see this rifle in action, I posted a short video to my Instagram page below:

I ran the rifle almost entirely suppressed, and it handled increased backpressure without a hiccup. There was minimal gas blowback, making for a comfortable shooting experience even during extended-range sessions. My brother and I spent some time engaging targets out to 500 yards with this rifle putting it through its paces.

For hunting, I set up the M4E1 Pro with an iRay RH25V2 thermal clip-on in front of a Vortex Razor 1-10 scope. This setup added some weight, but it also added a ton of capability. Out in the field, the 5.56 round proved effective on wild pigs with proper shot placement. I normally use 308, but 5.56 can still get the job done.

Final Thoughts

The Aero Precision M4E1 Pro is an impressive rifle that offers acceptable accuracy, smooth shooting characteristics, and excellent build quality. Its CHF barrel, rigid MOD 4 handguard, and ambidextrous lower set it apart from basic ARs. However, this comes at a price. The MSRP for the Aero Precision M4E1 Pro is $1999, though there are often sales from 10-20% off. For all the included features, this falls in line with other AR’s in its class, however, it marks Aero’s entry into the more premium AR market. While the stock trigger could be better, the rifle is a rock-solid performer, especially when suppressed. For shooters looking for a durable, well-balanced AR with modern features, the M4E1 Pro is an excellent option.
