Forget everything you think you know about Segway … and e-bikes for that matter. The brand that invented an entirely new category of personal transportation at the turn of millennium has turned its attention from industry-defining mobility ideas to industry-disrupting innovations.
Launched in 2024, the Segway Xyber presents a wild take on the typical e-bike design, appealing more to the thrill of riding than just the practicality. A decidedly dirt bike aesthetic belies a performance spec that carries everyday utility and all-terrain versatility.
Whether you’re e-bike-curious, or looking for a standout ride to go beyond the bike path, we’ll walk you through what makes the Segway Xyber a ride like no other.
Segway Xyber E-Bike: By the Numbers
The Xyber may sell itself on looks alone, but its performance capabilities shouldn’t take a backseat. With 175Nm of torque, riders will feel the thrust as the Xyber speeds from a dead stop to 20 mph in 2.7 seconds. Peak power pegs at 6,000 W. (If you’re not a diehard pro cycling fan, the world’s fastest sprinters might surpass 2,000 at maximum output.)
Wide open, the Xyber will top out at 35 mph — faster than just about everything else with pedals.
The Xyber’s frame can hold twin 1,400Wh batteries, which carry enough juice to fuel adventures up to 112 miles before needing a recharge. When it does come time to charge up, the 10A fast charger can recharge the batteries back to full in 4 hours. Plus, you won’t have to check the weather before every ride, because the batteries’ IPX7 water resistance provides more than enough protection for a passing rain shower.
And while speed and throttle time are fun, braking power is just as important. The Xyber has hydraulic, dual-piston rear disc brakes (180mm rotors) and burly four-piston (220mm) disc brakes up front.
What about where the rubber meets the road — or gravel? Five-inch-wide all-terrain tires will roll and crunch over a variety of terrain, just check local regulations for specific trail rules.
When you do explore beyond the asphalt, the Xyber boasts a 110mm dual-crown front suspension for added stability, and five-stage adjustable 100mm rear suspension to dial in the appropriate amount of stiffness and shock-absorption.
Xyber Ride, Segway Tech
Obviously, the Xyber’s rowdy styling and performance specs set it apart from the prototypical e-bike, but Segway also packed in a wide array of tech-forward features designed to add fun, safety, and convenience for real-world riding. It’s all part of Segway’s “Intelligent Ride System.”
Segway-Ninebot App
It all starts with the Segway-Ninebot app, the rider’s command center for health, system, location, and accessory data. The app will pair with your phone’s built-in health-stat monitoring to sync your rides with your goals. It will also send maintenance reminders, save past ride data, track battery level and range, provide authorized digital keys to your friends, and more.
Everything you need to make the most of Xyber’s features live there — beginning with security.
Security
For many cyclists, bike locks are added weight and inconvenience. So, Segway built in its own anti-theft hardware, so you won’t have to worry about it. The Xyber’s AirLock security automatically engages when the rider deploys the kickstand to park. Mechanical locks prevent physically moving the bike, while electronic lockouts prevent unauthorized access to the system and computer.
Plus, if anyone tampers with the Xyber while AirLock is on, they will trigger an alarm, warning lights, and an app notification sent to your phone. Best of all, there are no keys (to lose); AirLock automatically disengages when you return to your bike. If, for any reason, your bike is lost, the app will lock down the bike completely and share location data so you can retrieve it.
Safety
An approved bike helmet is still your responsibility, but the Xyber’s built-in intelligent lighting system has you covered to help you see and be seen while riding.
The Segway Xyber’s eye-catching “X” headlights aren’t just distinctive; they also automatically adapt to ambient lighting conditions to vary brightness from daytime running lights up to 1,300-lumen high beams to see at night.
For rear visibility and safety, the Xyber has dual-function tail and brake lights that brighten when you slow down.
Enjoy the Ride
From the driver’s seat, everything you want is packed into the integrated bike computer, square in the center of your handlebars. The 2.4-inch high-contrast display shows navigation, battery power, and assist level — and it connects via Bluetooth to give you control of your music.
If you fancy a workout, you can dial in the degree of motor assist you want from 12 different levels. Or, let the Xyber choose for you, using built-in sensors and Segway’s hallmark gyroscopic technology.
What’s more, you can set the Xyber’s throttle response (and battery usage) from among three ride modes: Eco (50%), Sport (70%), and Race (100%).
Segway Xyber: Ride ‘On’
If the e-bike search has left you feeling lackluster and uninspired, take a look at the Segway Xyber. It might be the innovative ride and distinctive look you’re missing.
With all-terrain capability, customizable comfort, intuitive safety features, and hassle-free security, the Xyber serves up versatility and convenience — with a splash of adventure. After all, you should be excited about your next ride!
