United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, have accused media outlet Politico of publishing “fiction” and “fake crap,” over a report on a potential Ukraine peace deal. Politico claimed Washington had made plans to lift sanctions on Russia as part of a potential Ukraine peace deal.

Rubio and Witkoff are among the key figures in U.S.-Russia discussions that have been seeking to end the conflict in Ukraine.

U.S. Issues “Truce” To Ukraine And Russia, But It’s NOT An Ultimatum?

In an article on Wednesday, Politico claimed that Washington is considering lifting sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream pipeline and “other Russian assets in Europe” as part of its peace efforts. Citing “five people familiar with the discussions,” Politico said Witkoff was the “main proponent” of the plan, allegedly due to a developing “friendship” with Russian President Vladimir Putin in his role as Trump’s envoy.

The piece also claimed Rubio opposed the idea and quoted analysts warning it could hurt US LNG (liquid natural gas) exports by reopening the EU market to Russian gas, according to a report by RT.

Rubio was quick to respond, writing on X that the “piece of fiction” was “unequivocally false.” Witkoff responded with sharper language, calling the article “fake crap.”

While the US-proposed peace framework has not been made public, reports suggest it could involve recognizing Crimea as Russian territory. Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky recently dismissed any such proposals as “unconstitutional,” prompting Trump to accuse him of jeopardizing the peace process with “inflammatory statements” and warning that he could “lose the whole country” if he does not compromise. –RT

Zelensky Rejects Russian Recognition of Crimea

So far, Ukrainian ruler Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected all of the ceasefire options, including allowing Crimea to remain Russian territory. Ukraine seems content to continue the war indefinitely while refusing to give any concessions to end it. Should the United States finally decide to withdraw its support of Ukraine, the entire facade could crumble quickly.

The only question is, will this war ever end, and how? If Zelensky won’t make concessions, and the U.S. is tempted to walk away completely, the only solution is to let Ukraine get demolished at this point. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
