If you’ve been holding out on buying a name-brand wristwatch because of the price, then this is the deal that you — and your parents, and your parents’ parents — have been waiting for!

On November 16, Timex will launch a limited run of Waterbury timepieces that pay homage to the “Yankee pocket watch” that sold for $1 in 1854. And what better way to pay tribute than to sell it for the exact same price?

“The $1 Anniversary Watch pays homage to the original Waterbury campaign, which promised ‘correct time for little money,’” Timex Chief Marketing Officer Shari Fabiani said in a press release.

Online and at participating retail stores, Timex will sell the 170th Anniversary Waterbury watch for a buck — until all 1,000 units are sold.

From its launch until the turn of the 20th century, nearly 50 years later, Timex sold more than 6 million of the original dollar timepieces. According to Timex, the wallet-friendly watch helped democratize time for farmers, train conductors, and factory workers alike.

Even legendary raconteur Mark Twain prized the pennywise pocket watch. Timex even has Twain’s (and Samuel Clemens’) handwritten letters to prove it.

The $1 Anniversary Watch joins the Timex Waterbury collection, a nod to the company’s roots as the Waterbury Clock Company. It has a glossy “ice white” dial with the official 170th Anniversary Edition logo. Three-dimensional lacquered Roman numerals elevate the hour markers off the face.

A window beside the 3 o’clock hour shows the date and day of the week.

On the vertically brushed caseback, Timex added a commemorative engraving to mark the special-edition timepiece’s unique place among the brand’s offerings.

No doubt, you’ll have to act fast to snag one of these tribute watches. The $1 Anniversary Watch will go live on November 16 in select retailers at 10 a.m. local time. It will also retail online at Timex.com and Timex.ca for U.S. and Canadian customers at 10 a.m. EST / 7 a.m. PST; Timex.co.uk at 10 a.m. GMT and Timex.eu at 10 a.m. CET; and shop.timexindia.com at 10 a.m. IST.
