Fill Your Own 1-Lb. Propane Bottles at the Station: Ignik Launches ‘TapRack’

A buddy of mine nearly blew his garage up trying to refill his 1-pound propane bottles for his camping grill. Don’t be like my buddy.

Refilling disposable propane bottles at home is downright dangerous (just ask my buddy) and even illegal in most places due to the hazards. But those classic “green bottle” propane tanks serve us so well for portable camping grills, many folks rely on them even though they end up in landfills.

Ignik says it’s solved the problem by creating the TapRack Refillable Propane system, designed to refill four 1-pound propane bottles at any commercial refilling station. The TapRack will be available in July 2025.

Refilling 1-Pound Propane Bottles Just Got Easier

Ignik says its aim is to reduce waste and make getting outdoors more sustainable. The brand is already pretty well known for its larger refillable propane canisters, which our team loves and uses regularly. It also builds propane heaters and grills.

But with its new offering, it’s targeting the smaller propane canisters ubiquitous to campgrounds across North America after brand founders saw single-use propane bottles polluting the Arctic Ocean on a sailing trip and decided to take action. The TapRack Refillable Propane system and its Pounders (1-pound refillable propane cylinders) is its solution.

The TapRack serves as the portable rack for up to 4-pounders. With a quarter-turn connecting system equipped with double valves, you can attach a single bottle to the rack. This eliminates the possibility of cross-threading, Ignik states.

At the top of the TapRack sits a standard propane tank connector. This type of connection, Ignik said, is exactly what you need to refill your propane tanks at any commercial refilling station that you would find at campgrounds, U-Haul centers, or hardware stores.

The TapRack Refillable Propane System and Pounders are UL-, DOT-, and Transport Canada-certified. This means that this system ranks safely enough to be transported in cars, RVs, boats, and more.

Ignik TapRack Refillable Propane System & Pounders

TapRack systems will include the refilling rack and four 1-pound refillable cylinders. These Pounder bottles are only compatible with the TapRack system.

The refilling rack includes two carrying handles, four reinforced feet for stability, and the propane adapter connection point. This system weighs 16.5 pounds when filled.

You can purchase just the TapRack refilling system package starting this July for $200. If you need to purchase additional refillable Pounders, you can pick those up for $25 each.

Ignik claims its TapRack system “pays for itself in just 4 refills.” We haven’t gotten our hands on it just yet, but we’ll put that claim to the test once the TapRack is available in July. Stay tuned!
